SolderXT90

Another great excuse to use Vice Grips...(thanks dpricenator...)
This makes soldering XT90's a breeze!
Yeah I was going to do my own connectors. bought a soldering iron, the connectors, heat shrink, etc. Then got scared and had my LHS do it for me. At least you have the sand to do your own work.

That's OK, dpricenator, soldering connectors can seem intimidating at first but once you do a few you'll find it's not hard at all. And if you stick with XT90's, they are very easy to work with. I went to these from traxxas connectors which defiantly require a bit more patience to get right.

Soldering tips: When working with the larger XT90 connectors and larger gauge wire, you'll want to use a high wattage soldering iron along with a larger soldering tip. The larger tip has a higher heat capacity allowing more heat to flow and melt the solder quickly. You want to minimize the time the iron is against the wire and connector so you don't end up melting the connector body or the wire shielding. Plugging 2 connectors together as shown in the above photo also serves as a heat sink helping to dissapate excess heat and reduces the chances of the connector melting. Practice soldering thinner 16 gauge wire first before attempting to solder 12 and 10 gauge wire.

Good advice right there!
Like ninadada said, a nice (hot) soldering iron is the first step.

So I'm waiting on a battery to arrive. I've gotta solder on some XT90 connectors. I've watched a dude doing it on utube and looks pretty easy ?? !!
Do you still need the shrink wrap if you use the XT90 with the rear plastic clip in bit ??
