Typhon Why has nobody made a center shaft cover for the 3s line?

That's awsome... it's a handy tool to have for sure, do you have a particular machine in mind?
Not really, looking for suggestions. Just need something that can handle RC parts, and detail parts like Transformer weapons lol
I've got a $3-400 budget. I enjoy automotive wiring projects, and rc kits so I'm not afraid of having to assemble one. Took cad/cam classes in high school, so all of this is refreshing too lol

I would look at the CR-10 v2

The center shaft cover is great and I don't know anyone or any library that has a printer. I do live in a college town though so maybe I can ease my way into a college age engineering chick and get it all. Gotta hit a local bar for a change to see what I can pull.
I purposely avoid this forum when I'm feeling nervous about how much I'm spending but here I am watching printer reviews and thinking of a new PC for better video production. Arrma cranking out models every few months doesn't help either.

Lol.. I hear ya man.. but remember there is some here that would be glad to print one up for ya... (y)

just be careful if you get this printer because it has no thermal runaway protection and can very easily start a fire!
You can get an SKR Mini E3 and load Marlin and enable it.

There aren't many printers that come with the runaway enabled,

What type of modeling and size of models will you be printing? The cr-10 v2 is a good printer with a good build plate volume.. but if you do not plan to print anything real large you could just grab an ender 3 for pennies.. with your stated budget you could get the printer, some stainless nozzles, some capricorn ptfe and plenty of filament to keep you printing for some time...

Keep in mind the smaller printers are less susceptible to harmonics, print quality can sometimes suffer on the larger printers because of this, hence the z brace setup on the cr-10 v2... I personally own a cr-10 (original), an ender 3, a crx(daul extrusion), and a monoprice maker select v2 (rebranded wanhoa)... the ender can attain very good quality at quite decent print speeds, the others not so much, they must be slowed way down to put out quality work, but have the volume to handle large prints...

The transformer modeling would most likely be best suited on the ender 3..

The statement about the runaway protection is true, but to be honest, there aren't many printers coming from china that have it enabled, not one of my printers has it... nor have I enabled it.. all firmware and hardware are stock on my machines besides the capricorn ptfe, and stainless nozzles... I have machines that have fed well over 8 miles of filament, and have more than 260 days of solid print time without any issue... I keep 2 smoke alarms above the printers to be safe..

Constant monitoring and maintenance keeps my thermistors in check, (all original by the way)...

Creality has been pressed many many times to have it enabled in the firmware.. yet they still send machines out without.. as @jondilly1974 mentioned you can enable it yourself with certain methods... I would not let this deter you from any certain machine..

Thanks for the write up. I'm definitely leaning towards the Ender, I like that you can enclose the whole thing too. Largest thing I see myself making for Transformers stuff would probably be 5"x5" or so. Ideally I would be using it in my basement, on a glass desk, concrete floor, and I have smoke detectors down there. I charge my lipos down there too, not too worried about anything bursting into flames. *knocks on wood

Are the stainless nozzles something I want to upgrade to immediately? Any retailer you suggest? Or just whoever has it cheapest lol

It’s like an RC, you can wait until you wear out the stock end or do it up front. There is no right or wrong. It’s a personal choice. I still have my original nozzle installed, but I’ve only ran PLA and TPU out of it so far. I have carbon fiber PLA that I haven’t ran yet. That is supposed to be rough on the hot end.

Ya the nozzle can wait... I use brass ones all the time.. it's just nice to have the stainless as it makes the maintenance on that part of the hot end less( parts wise anyway)...

@jondilly1974 is correct, carbon infused filament is rough so wears at the nozzle, there are several abrasive filaments out there.. anything that glows in the dark, carbon infused, and all of the metal infused filaments... even these filaments take about 7-10 kilos to wear a brass nozzle.. it's not an instant thing...

The capricorn ptfe bowden tube I recommend highly.. more constrained filament path, makes retractions more precise...
No I don't have a recommendation on where to buy.. I usually just hit Ebay for parts and tubing..

Awesome, I'm def getting the Ender5. It's $319 -15coupon, currently on Crealitys site. Think I'm going to just scoop that, and the Capricorn tubing and see how it goes. Some of those surprise test eggs are great lol

Edit: Found it for 289 on ebay +23 tax

Edit2: z Was cheaper with the tube upgrade thru Creality, NY tax fu lol

That’s what I bought too, an Ender5. I got mine from Amazon with my Amex points (free). Like it so far, other than the build volume could be a little larger. I like that the bed doesn’t move like the Ender3 or CR10. Takes up less space.

What modeling program are you guys using? I think it was AutoCAD and Inventor I used in school, but that was seventeen years ago lol

Was looking through your Thingiverse CamaroDude, def going to make the Gen7 headlight buckets, and Typhon center support in a obnoxious color. I want to find/design inner fenders, and interior for my Enduro too.

Jondilly, are you on there too?

Sign up with fusion 360, it's an Autodesk program as well... the best part is it's free for hobbyists.. many many companies and corporations now use it.. it's very intuitive, and it's nice because it has it's own cam built in for cnc.. it's my go to program..

If your interested in the center brace for the typhon unfortunately it wont work.. the tower brackets wont fit the front tower.. also I've revised that completely, I just have not added the new files yet due to lack of testing... this is the new setup.. it's easier to install and service..it should also be substantially stronger...

I like the shaft cover idea, only because I did have the drive shaft try to eat one of the motor wires, but I've handled that with a ziptie lol

Also CamaroBoy, Just noticed your profile pic on Thingiverse, is that Lebanon Valley? If so, I race there too from time to time

Sure is, we try to get there as much as possible but it's a hassle.. my car has no cage, so they only let me run 1/8's and I have to get on the brakes or i get in trouble.. my buddies race every weekend.. they are track residents.. lol..

There is also TinkerCAD which is also a free AutoCAD product. It is a super simple cloud based app. It doesn’t have all the features of Fusion 360 of course, but it will be easier to use for a noob. Not saying you’re a noob, but for others who don’t have CAD experience, TinkerCAD will get you started. I’m still trying to figure out Fusion 360 as I don’t have CAD experience prior to TinkerCAD.

I'm going to try Fusion, Onshape, and TinkerCAD. If they're all free, why not right.

Awesome, I'm the jerk that brings all my cars at least once. So everything from my 19sec '90 auto Civic wagon, to my 13.9@102 Acura TLS 6spd lol
Didn't make it to LVD or any autox this year. It was an off year because we got a puppy. I even put new 200tw tires on the TLS and barely drove it this season, oh well, there's always next year.

Ok guys, I'm happy to report that testing has gone very well with no failures of any kind on the revised design.. i will be posting the stl as soon as I can.. I will post some pics tonight or tomorrow of what I have come up with...
