Arrma RC's
Hey guys, took the kraton for a burn today, and then out of no where it spit the pinion out. It's the high speed (14t) pinion that comes with it. Anyone ever seen it break like This? Right at the grub screw? Is it covered by Warranty?

same happens to me, stock and optional too lol, I orderer one from Hot racing, lets see whats happens

The 14T is the Kraton's speed pinion, so you must have changed it? Not sure if Arrma will use this to avoid the warranty, but never hurts to send them a message anyways. The teeth look good, so it must have just been changed? Arrma's stock pinions are definitely not the most durable, especially when using 6S. Try either a Robinson Racing or Tekno pinion, as these are your 2 best choices. I'm using a 15T in my V3 Kraton, & 16T in my V3 Talion.

Same thing happened to me with a Novak 23t pinion. No blue or green loctite would work for it being so large so I had to use red. Spur & pinion met rock & the pinion lost. But I don't think the loctite would have made any difference. Only binding can cause a pinion to break like this. When it comes to spur & pinion binding, no matter how hard or expensive the pinion is, it will always lose to the larger, heavier spur.

Yeah I did change it from day 1, I'm running 4s and it had zero problems until it spit it out haha I've emailed hobbico to see if they will warranty it, and in the mean time I ordered a 14t Tekno pinion and will see how it does.

I don't think it was a binding issue. The mesh was set great, as you can tell the gear teeth are in great shape, no rocks went into the teeth because the grounds still covered in snow here in canada. Also there is no sign of foreign matter obstruction. The teeth on the spur and pinion are perfectly fine. Weird eh?

Binding can occur if the pinion moves or the grub backs out. If the grub is hard enough the spur can hit it & crack the pinion w/o damaging the grub. I also wouldn't bother with hobbico's replacement. The stock pinions are trash. It's a rite of passage to break them if you decide to use them. Even the cheap pack of 5 pinions on Amazon & eBay are better quality than that junk.
