What up guys, this may have been covered but im just looking for advice or opinions. I have about 1 1/2 packs into this rig of just being built out of the box and I'm already getting a popping sound out of one of these diffs? It's running a castle XLX2 1100kv set up in it and 30/39 gearing, power hobby 8000 130c packs. No jumps or anything, only one pack through it with no issues and its an animal.. But, just yesterday I ran it again about 10 mins into it and started clicking and popping already. No popping when elevated, just when it's power on the ground.. Any suggestions on warranty, or should I just go ahead and look for a solution on upgrading it now? ( BTW I haven't tore into it just yet to see what's up) Thanks.

Call Horizon. They should step up and send you some new diffs

Thanks, hope they can help me out, I haven't opened them up yet to confirm what's going on, it doesn't do it unless it's powered under load. If I flip it and turn it by hand seems fine no grinding. I feel like if I open the diffs up and tear it apart they may think it's tampered with, or no? Guess I should have checked before testing the new rig.

You do not void the warranty or any replacement parts by opening the diff. In many cases, it is more proof to Horizon we need a replacement and you can better explain the issue. Open it up no worries on their end.

Good to know, thanks. Haven't dealt with HH warranty service so hopefully we can work it out. Was hoping to get atleast 5-10 runs out of it before a tear down. But hey, she's a heavy beast. While I'm getting into the diff does anyone know if the 8s EXB needs any shim kits from the factory while waiting for parts or are these in usually in good shape?

Open the diffs, see whats wrong. See if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from before tearing all the diffs apart.
edit.
make sure your motor wires are correctly seated into the ESC female plugs.

I gave it a good once over inspection. Everything is connected well. Pinion and spur are still set where they were. No leaks, no split diff cases, diff cups, d bones, drive shift everything appears to be okay on the outside and I'm thinking it may be the center transmission or diff. If I power it up and hold the wing and give it a little throttle something it's popping/ hard snapping. I flip it over and spin any of the tires by hand all 4 would turn together, now when I do it front or rear mainly spin which ever axle I spin and the opposite axle will only move a little bit. If that makes any sense. Also when I spin them by hand theres no grinding or feel of debris in the diffs, every thing spins smooth and freely with no resistance or feel of peices, and also if I lift it up and power it all four tire spin even up to a baloon state. Try that when I put it on the ground and with a little throttle it'll start popping and grinding.

okay, well I've found the problem.. all four center diff screws backed out. Opened it up by hand.🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Hi, this has also happened to me so am interested in any advice
Red loctite......

@Armarookie43 has lots of experience on this, and he recommended this to me for my first build....is in process.....

If red worries ya, at least use blue, just my opinion

It's so strange, I've had a HSP planet V1 last me for awhile only little problems when I land wrong but always its an easy simple fix.
But with these expensive trucks why do they have such issues like this so common and alot happens within just the first hour into playtime.
I really wonder what's going on.

For the many hours of fun that never get reported, when problems do happen, a variety end up being discussed here. I personally have not had the problem listed by the original poster of this thread, but I know someone who did, and what they did to rectify it.

I started in this hobby with toy grade, which did ok, and one is still running. The reason why I spend hard earned money on these definitely more expensive rigs is because they are MUCH better built overall, MUCH MUCH better..... major brands typically have better service, parts availability and support.

In this thread we are talking about 30 pound rigs that jump, bash and smash going 30,40,50 mph and more....

It amazes me that MORE stuff doesn't break, to be honest.

I have had pathetically few things break on our Senton and Mojave. Original poster may have had a simple QC oversight.

There never has been an RC rig that is or was perfect.... enough time and usage something will break.....it's just part of the hobby.

My final 2 cents is....I chose Arrma for the bulk of my RC rigs because they are, in general, quite rugged. They aren't perfect.....but part availability, both stock and aftermarket, is really good, and help for repairs and helpful ideas for the hobby are always available on this forum.

I have no regrets

Not sure. Guessing the esc. Took off about 30% throttle went about 6-8 foot lost power, heard the pop seen the fire ball coming out the esc and then the batteries blew up. The C motor wire came unsoldered is about all I see among the fire damage, only has about 5 or 6 runs on it

Maybe someone will be able to ascertain from your photo……sure did cook some wires other than the C wire…..are those QS8 connections? That’s what I am using for my 8S…..

Yeah man, same here this was the first major rig I've bought, and was shocked at first when the diff was clicking and popping like that with less than 2 packs in it already. Thought for sure the diff was gone. But was surprised that it didn't eat the teeth away and was such a simple fix.
Matter of fact I was just in hobby town and bought my son his first hobby grade truck, the Big Rock. Charged his battery up and took our brand new toys out for a spin. Lasted about 6 mins, and mine went up in violently in flames on the 5th run.
But I will say these thing are amazing in what they can do for such a giant heavy vehicle.
Unfortunately I did not expect such issues so far with almost 2 grand in it, I'm quite disappointed and the excitement has almost turned into a chore rather than some fun R n R with the kids. So, hopefully Castle will back there brand up when I get time to call them and see what they can do. All hobby town had to say was "yeah it happens with castle all the time, call em up, they'll warranty it" so let's hope so.

Yep pretty much cooked all of them except the harness, melted the b link too..but with that amount of damage I ll probably just replace the harness too. Have minor damage on the motor wires. Yeah I was running the Qs8's too.
Think id be on the phone with castle for sure!!!
Yeah, they're closed today unfortunately, best believe I'll be on the phone with them first thing in the morning, lol

Well, diffs is fixed, but xlx2 crapped the bed and blew up the batteries on the 5th run..the fun never ends.
Wow that sucks! I've been very lucky since I've had both my XLX2 on my Outcast 8s and EXB K8S for months with no issues. Many many crashes and 30ft plus jumps 🤷
