Arrma RC's
  1. Granite
Hi, new at this forum - and at RC driving, so this may be a total noob question. My son bought an Arrma 4x4 a couple of months ago and it has had issues ever since. After 5 minutes' driving: front shock broke. 5 more minutes: servo busted. 5 more minutes: stopped moving. The RC shop told me that I'd 'bought into a hobby'. I replied that RTR to me seems to stand for 'Ready To Repair'.

Anyway...

The issue now is that the motor seems to be running normally, and when I pick up the car the tyres do turn, but once I put the car down to drive the power transmission to the wheels seems to be too weak and it doesn't move (see clip). I opened up the differential, which seems to be fine, but did notice that it's quite easy to turn the spur gear (see clip), but perhaps this is how these slipper pads are supposed to work...

Any help very much appreciated - thanks in advance!

Is your slipper cluch nut back off enough that it will just slip versus sending power to the gears

Yup, you slipper is way too loose. Here is the Arrma video on how to tighten it. When I am adjusting my slipper, I will leave the driveshaft off, and body off. That way I can adjust it, run it a bit, adjust it , run it, etc, till I get it where I think it is right. Once it feels right, I will put the driveshaft back in and give it one more test run.

Hi, thanks, I'm thinking that it may not be the slipper clutch after all - I had tightened it a bit already, and even with the 'hold the wheels and see how far the front will bounce up" test it doesn't move at all.

But I'll tighten some more and will see what happens!

Did have to tighten it quite a bit more, but it worked!
Thanks much!

Glad you got it. From that second video, it was WAY too loose, it should be very hard to turn by hand.

Also, make sure that it is not slipping while you are driving. It is OK for it to slip a bit on hard acceleration, but you want it to not slip more than 1-2 seconds.

I personally tigten it all the way and then back it off one full turn. Then I'll tighten or loosen it depending on how it feels. You might have smoked the slipper pads too. Then no matter how tight you crank it, it will more than likely slip.

Alright, this helps a lot, just started going through this myself. My son crashed his pretty hard, and at first I only found the broken front bumper mount, one missing front shock spring, broken shock shaft. Once I had gotten all of those parts got the thing put back together, and the first run after the breakages, was the first time I noticed how much it was slipping, so I got some new slipper pads, but I couldn't tighten the spring all the way down (and while doing so I noticed the slipper shaft was wiggling and spinning while rolling the truck to tighten the spring). Finally, after getting it all apart again I noticed the slipper hub (AR310789) was in 3 pieces where the pin goes into it (I know he had a head on impact, but I'm surprised it made its way up here to break something, considering the spring loaded center shaft and all). This thread helped me find this breakage, I was at a real loss, well back to the waiting game, lol.

"Finally, after getting it all apart again I noticed the slipper hub (AR310789) was in 3 pieces where the pin goes into it...."

Exact same breakage happened to mine. Does anyone know if the BLX slipper parts AR310880 are a direct upgrade for the Mega 4x4 slipper?

It's an entirely different assembly that requires a different spur and input gear.

Uuugh, it looks like MAYBE the 48pitch spur would still work, but at the very least I need 310880 BLX hub set, 310881 slipper shaft, and 310882 spring and bolt. But if the input gear on spur side is different splines for Mega and BLX it still won't work. Can you confirm the 17T Mega HD input gear vs the BLX input gear use different spur side spline?

You can't use the mega spur. It just won't dit. Totally different design. And I can confirm that the 17t mega hd input gear has smaller teeth that. The 13t BLX input gear.

Are you referring to just the input gear side? I'm only asking because both vehicles use the exact same slider shaft, and I'm changing these for my son's Granite as well, found that after putting in a mild brushless system in the slipper system and the 48 pitch spurs were just not holding up to the way my son was using this car, and decided to go for the blx parts. After pouring over both the exploded views for both versions, ended up ordering up the blx slipper plate and spring set, blx ring and ouput gears f&r, blx slipper shaft, and just to be safe the blx motor plate with 15t pinion (for the full conversion should anything not happen to fit right).

So I have had my truck for 3 days I have drove it a couple times and not it’s making weird sounds when I try to drive it it sounds like the gears are grinding idk why it’s not going good?

Howdy and Welcome!

1st - What model is your truck? Mega, or BLX?

2nd - Maybe start your own thread, as this one is about slipper clutch adjustment. Also, If you have a gear grinding noise, a video would help us figure out the issue.

I found the problem

Check the motor mount plate....they bend and then all the parts break.....spur.....motor bearing.....pinion. I still think the fixed V2 plate was stronger than the new adjustable one. I'll pick up the M2C racing plate setup once mine dies.
