Picked up a new Kraton today. This is my first RC car in about 30 years. Ran it on 2 3S batteries. OMG is this thing fast!! I almost ran it straight through my wood fence. I love it! One dumb question, how do I know when the batteries are discharged? Does it just stop, or does it give an audible warning of some kind?

Thanks!

Just stops. Double check that the Lipo low voltage shutoff is set. It’s in the manual not hard to do. Congratulations it is an amazing thing to witness if you have been out of the hobby for a while. Go ahead and save up for a servo and servo mount.

Congrats and welcome!

It will just stop when the batteries get low. We call this "LVC" or Low Voltage Cut-off.

A few not-obvious tools to buy -

Lipo checker - It is a good idea to an eye on your voltage. Lipo meter will show cell voltage and % left. Note that 4.2v is considered "full" and 3.0v is considered "Full dead" - go any lower and risk damaging the battery.

A thermometer - I use this $12 one from Harbor freight. Your "finger gauge" max out at about 130f -aka skin burn, but the motor is safe and happy up to about 170f.

Thanks for the info. I have a couple IR thermometers, will definitely pick up the LiPo checker.

I've already been researching upgrades while I was waiting for it to show up!!

I'm very new to this as well, and my Kraton v3 will kind of limp along slowly after running for a good amount of time. I assumed this meant the batteries were dead, but now I'm wondering if that means I'm overheating it?

That is LVC. When you first hit LVC, it goes into a low power limp mode for a bit. Gives you a chance to drive it back to you without stressing the batteries. If you keep going, it will shut all the way off.

I will toss out the need for GOOD TOOLS. IMHO a set of MIP hex Drivers, and/or hex bits for an electric screwdriver are a must have item. Yeah, they are expensive for small tools, but holy cow, what a difference when it comes to working on the car. Keep reading the forum, thereis more info here than you will find anywhere else.

Second on the MIP Hex drivers. Save you from stipping anything too.
