DIY slipper pads?

dude I would TOTALLY try the auto gasket material, I think it will work perfectly and might even have higher grip, but might wear out quick but who cars you can make more!

its that perfect fiber like material that other manufacturers have made of similar material (that tan stuff)

I've seen carbon fiber pads even? I bet you can make em for sure. I like the gasket material idea too.

Yeah I am afraid that they wont last as long because the gasket material is more fibery and softer not as rigid but I am positive it will work and get you by. I know you don't want to run metal on metal.

Ok so I made some pads last night. The gasket paper is quite old, it didn't like my hole punch and kept splitting. The thickness is pretty close though. I used a couple of drops of CA to hold them to the gear, as they are no where near a snug fit!

Unfortunately my spare spur gear was an 81T whereas I've been running the stock 87T, so comparing directly is a bit difficult.
It got the car moving, but didn't want to do many wheel stands, again maybe the different teeth?
I'll see how it goes on the weekend, it'll be running on a dirt road and very short grass, so a lot more forgiving than the thick grass that I baked the clutch on originally.

I thought you had the grey fiber gasket material that looks like the cork stuff and its brittle and soft and won't work as well

Ok, so ive run a couple of packs through it now, the last being on grass when it finally cooked the gasket paper.
Not bad I guess considering it cost me nothing. The gasket paper seems to grip similar to genuine slipper pads, just doesn't have the heat tolerance ?

Now the spur gear is stripped, so its out of action again anyway.
