Granite Granite Voltage upgrades?

nice! I think the 15t motor would be a fun combo.. you might be surprised how much faster the batteries drain though (even with proper gearing) I'm lucky.. I have a bunch of chargers.. most of them can charge 4 li-ions very fast so I usually have to wait on the truck to cool and not the batteries :p

Hope you get what you are asking for your truck! I do like how you can retard the trigger for younger or new drivers on this truck. I hope to get my nephew into using it on a slow setting when he is old enough. As he gets better I can add speed.. enough that it won't be boring at all when he's ready for some speed :)

hehe I always ran my at full tilt. Not too bad of a truck, but I wish I had kept my brushless converted Granite 4x4!

Yes there will be :) I actually have a 25t pinion coming just for experimenting... I probably won't get to it until this weekend. I have a redcat 16t 550 I'm thinking about trying it with (about equal to a 20t, 540.. like the stock motor but more torque) Experimenting with different combo's is part of the fun I think. Let me know how yours runs! :)

Did you ever run the 25t pinion? How'd that go?

Sorry I've been away from the forum for awhile.. probably because I got a Rcat rc ... (nothing against arrma - I just like being different )

I have the pinion.. and... i never installed it. I was able to run the truck with li-po with the same setup... i'm pretty impressed with the esc, it seems to be able to handle more than the brushed motors can! (ps... I think you are better off with the li-ions for brushed motors.. it's about perfect... the lipo dumps too many amps too fast, be prepared to torch your motor with one) Maybe next summer I'll have more time to play with the voltage.. when I got the terremoto... i started pouring money into it.. it's now 6s power with axle extenders (as if it wasn't wide enough already.. but needed clearance for the duratrax monster tires when turning) the tires are strapped and it's ready for snow! :) If there is enough traction outside i might run the voltage some more soon. I personally feel that the truck has more than enough power for how light it is even though it's brushed. It will flip on it's back just like the big 'moto does (well the moto jumps in the air first ;) ) when smashing the throttle. I think if it's cold in your area right now the 25 tooth would be fine with a 12 t 550 (not 540) Just don't run it through high resistance thick dead grass or anything... gravel, dirt, road for top speed bursts should be fine in moderation!

I am looking to get a pair of voltage for Christmas. Going one Granite and one Fazon as low level bashers for my son and I. I am looking for low level tweaks to slightly upgrade. I am thinking the esc for a larger lipo and maybe a bigger brushed motor. I don't need the speed of brushless on these specific ones at this time but may want to upgrade the motor later, so a better esc. I am new to the hobby and looking for product suggestions.

I have the Fazon Voltage. I put the Arrma Mega 15 turn brushed motor in mine, fitted with the 25 tooth pinion and a 5000mah 2s lipo. It drives like a completely different car now. It is so much faster. The performance difference is just amazing. I have been driving it with this setup for about four months now and haven't had a single problem. It does not get hot nearly as bad as people say it will. Back in the summertime it would start to get pretty hot after bashing for a good 15 minutes, then I would go ahead and call it quits so I wouldn't damage anything but that was 15 solid minutes of going hard at it. I am still bashing here in Michigan in the snow and ice with no problems. It's definitely waterproof! ?.

I did almost the same with my granite. Lipo at 50c, 19t gearing. Gets a little warm but it will finally do the speed claimed on the box. I did have to cut the chassis to run the lipo, but not much.

Same here. Lol. 50c. 5000mah 2s lipo and I cut mine a little bit too just like yours. I also cut a little notch out on the other side for putting a little jumper in when I run off brand 18650 lion Batts to be able to make the connection

Someone here suggested to me to move to the new BLX 3S Granite, and I'm seriously considering it.

In the vein of upgrades, anyone have any idea of a slightly stiffer spring to put on the rear? I installed the T-bone wheely bar on my son's granite and it's too heavy for the stock springs.

Also I just ordered the Arrma 550 12t motor for him, to see if we can put that wheelie bar to use.

Let me know how that works.. I'm new to this but from what I see the 550's can pull a lot more power but don't spin nearly as fast as the 540's for the same # of turns.
MEGA SRS is rated at 40Amps max.

Math
2S = 7.2 Volts = ~300 watts
Stock is
540 size 20T = 2100kv (120 watts)
550 size 11T = 2400KV (no 12T) (470 watts)

I'm not exactly sure what any of that means, but if the ESC fries I'll deal with that later. I just wanna get it to stand up without going brushless.

Well I ordered some Arrma springs thinking that they would fit the shocks because they were from other 1/10 vehicles. No dice. Diameter too large, length too long. Tried changing to a very slightly heavier shock fluid. Either the shocks are garbage or I'm an idiot because they all bled out, Teflon tape wouldn't even stop it.

I'm not trying to triple my investment here, but I'm trying to get it performing better. My local shop is exclusively Traxxas, so they are basically useless. The specs on the Arrma site for things like shocks aren't in depth enough for me to make educated purchases.

I'm lost.

Hey swam0, a couple of things..

I've modded both of my Granite Voltage models.

My son's now has a 550 15t brushed motor, the Traxxas Titan. Mine has a4300kv brushless system installed. We're both on 2S 50c LiPo batteries. On the stock tires, you won't have enough traction for wheelies unless the bumper weight somehow helps that.

As for shocks, easiest is to bring them to a hobby store and try matching up to what they have in the shelf. Otherwise, you can measure them using calipers and go down the rabbit hole of the internet looking for spring specs. I've tried that and it drove me nuts.

I would pull the rear bumper off and get the power and handling to your liking rather than try to make a wheelie machine.

I understand. I don't have one on my own. But the five year old boss of me demands wheelies! Hahaha.

In my experience, with power sufficient for wheelies in these models, you arrive at a place where replacing outdrives and/or differentials will become a noob-stop affair with these models.

IMHO, it would be better to work with a different platform for that as it's likely to end in frustration.
