To the guys using old towels (which I used at first,) I found a free improvement. At least in my opinion.
If you have a Harbor Freight in your area, use the free coupon for a 40x50" moving blanket. As of last night, I now have two of them. Screws don't roll, it's somewhat comfortable on elbows, good coverage but does burn pretty quick if your soldering iron hits it.
I also use the free coupon for the Microfiber Cleaning Cloths instead of paper towels.
Remember, at HF you can use as many coupons as items you plan to buy. I always go in with the 20% off a single item and a free coupon at least. There are apps you can use on your phone that will allow you to download the coupons and the cashier can scan right from your device.

Well after seeing some of those nice set ups, I feel my next project will be to build a better work station. Nonetheless, here's where I'm working now.

For years I used to work on my RC's at the kitchen table. Come dinner time, if I wasn't done working I'd slid it to one side and we'd eat on the other side.

That made for some very romantic dinners. :D

The 30"x 30" plastic folding table wasn't sturdy enough and wouldn't allow me to work on multiple vehicles at the same time, so I upgraded to a 50" x 26" aluminum table with a heavy 14 gauge 316 stainless steel top.

The wife rolled her eyes  and said it looks like an operating table.

I'd have to agree

I have that same computer desk in the back, :D

Its great for laying out small parts, tools, rebuilding shocks, diffs or anything else.

Where else can you get 26.5sqft of shelf space in a 9sqft footprint? :D

I love Harbor Freight, especially the free stuff. Sure it's cheap but hey it was free.

Thanks for the inspiration WoodiE and everyone else who submitted photos of their "office". A little peg board, a TV stand to hold it, and voila, new work bench.

Try a new tool for so much less at HFT. If it breaks it was inexpensive and return it. If it works and lasts it was a good buy. Meantime disposable freebies and useful tricks. Glue and red and blue threadlock I find is a good buy there. Other stuff in bigger cans not so much...brake cleaner, wd40 etc 3n1 oil.
I get the free microfiber towels most. The tool magnet, led lights, batteries, flyswatter, the best is the moving blanket still. lol.

After taking a quick look at the HF website, I realized that Canada's version of that store is Princess Auto. Your not likely to find any big name brands, but they do guarantee their Powerfist line with a lifetime warranty. It began as a mostly rural location type of store, but over the last 10 years, they started showing up in multiple locations inside the major cities. Check it out if your ever north of the border.

Looking good buddy!

That reminds me I need to post updated photos of my two work areas now.

This picture makes me realize I am a pack rat. Someone once told me "don't throw that away, you might need it someday." I took it to heart. Everytime I run out of space, I just add another shelf or more screws in the joists to hang stuff! Time to clean house.
