Arrma RC's
  1. 4x4-Mega
  2. Gorgon
  3. Senton 3s
Not a big deal except this is the 2nd ESC fire from Spektrum.
2 different trucks.. 1st was my son's Senton Mega with an older ESC.
This weekend, the 40a 2-in-1 ESC receiver caught fire, I went to pull the battery and the solder leads were already toast.
This car is barely 5 months out of the box.

Anyone else having issues with these things?

I have another one in the Gorgon. Hoping that doesn't go off like these others as well.

Spontaneous cookoff!!

I hear a Mandatory Recall coming soon...
or Christmas will be 🔥 under the tree..

I was starting (Hard) at a Gorgon during my lunch break today..

Actually wouldn't doubt a recall.
The whole 2 in 1 idea is frustrating as hell as now I need an ESC and a receiver, which I may has well buy a transmitter too.
don't mean to turn this into a rant but it's a pretty dumb idea.

Also for what it's worth..

Senton 2-in-1 had orange aluminum heat sink and the Gorgon has a dark grey one.
Just to clarify the Orange one and the red one from the Mega before it are the ones that caught fire.
Not sure if there are other differences.

The orange and red are older type units..

Hopefully the newer Grey units are of "better" quality...

I assume you had the lipo/nimh jumper in the correct location?

well, i hate to be the bearer of bad news. i have those older red esc's and they caught fire in the past. last week i was running my all stock gorgon that i received for Christmas last year. as soon as i hooked the battery up to go run, it caught fire too. this is the newer black and gray one. i contacted tower hobbies and they had a replacement sent out same day!

is it set to NiMH as default?

The NASCAR unit has been great with 100C lipos and Upgraded Brushed Motor. Both older 2-in-1 Grom ESC units only lasted a pack or two before failing with the same setup.

Yes. This was a senton started life as the no battery included boost.

Been using a 120c 6500mah. Zee.

Figured the 120c is probably 80c by other standards. Its been running great for 5 months.

Maybe moisture got to it? Although i think they are "water-resistant"

if it ships with a nimh battery it will be set to nimh on default. one thing i noticed is that on my fury, i ordered the stripped down rtr with no battery or charger. i guess arrma figured that people that buy that version will run lipo, the jumper was in lipo mode by default which i thought was cool

It’s safer to ship it set to lipo mode if you’re not sure. All it does is have a LVC.
