Have a talion with a superlite m2c chassis, reasonably lightweight. Atm it's running a max 6 and a 4282 1780kv. Just to mix things up and maybe see if I use it more I was going to exclusively run it on 4s. But I still want the speed. Was thinking max 8 g2 and some sort of 2400kv-2600kv motor. Somewhere around 24/46.

My question is has anyone got any experience of doing this with a talion? How did it perform? Tips, advice etc.?

I used to always run my 6s rides on 4s..many advantages of a light 4s setup...car handles so much better, far less wear an tear on parts,,much less damage from crashs..I'd advise just running more of a 2000ish kv cause less rpms will stress system less...imo my typhon was faster on 4s than 6s geared both for 65mph...turns where night an day different..

Well you know I've got my Talion, that's pretty lightweight, I'm running TpPower 2100kv with Castle monster X, I've only run it on 4s once though and it was pretty fast still.
I do have dedicated lightweight 4s only Scooby Typhon and that's batshit crazy fast, it smokes all my mates 6s cars :ROFLMAO: I'll be posting it up here soon. (y)

Bonus: 4s batteries cheaper than 6s, overall car is lighter and more nimble

I'm currently running my talion with max8 g2 w/2250 4278, 18t pinion/stock spur gear, 4s backflips. It hits 52 mph. Very light and nimble. Im wondering if it would be ok to up the pinion to 19 or 20t? don't want to burn up this esc.

Cannot agree more on that Typhon setup I have done the same.

OK, so It's either stick with a stock-ish system 2000ish kv and gear it up as @K-BASH suggested or navigate the tp minefield as per @BashingBrian. Have other 6s bashers so this will be 4s only. Everyone loves the talion, I have never been able to gel with it. Always preferred my kratons and noto. See if this changes things. 👍

For bashing the stock motor does very well,no major differences unless you want a very radical setup that needs fans an a close you on temps..tp has the high kv options others don't..if $ is an issue I'd definitely go tp cause they called of much more an higher quility..but for bashing not so much necessary.i mostly just speedrun anymore an I've tried probly half the motors they have to offer.20,36,40,56mm I've tested lots of them cause that's what I enjoy doing....I'd use 3500-5500kv for 4s with speed..but for bashing I always liked 1800-2200kv for 4s bashing..pending on diffs an tire size I'd around 26t pinion and an 46t center diff an so much more fun park bashing..less rollover, carving corners,an alot less damage from crashs..not sure what ya meen by tp minefield?probly the easiest way to pick a tp is to go by the max amps they got rate for there motors.its somewhat accurate for newer buyers...if you have a 150a esc don't pick a motor that has a 200a max rating..stay under the amp your esc is rated for..first thing I do when picking a basher motor is go to rc calculator put my tire size, diff ratio, put it at 12v for 4s.toss 22/46 in calculator an then play with kv till I'm at the 60mph speed I like an shot for that kv..for a 4s 60mph talion I'd pick 1800-1900kv an could be ran fine on 6s also after gearing down

That's some pretty sound TP advise(y)
The other thing I like about TP motors is that when you get it wrong gearing wise they can take the abuse, I have one that went over 225 degrees, it still works fine to this day
I honestly don't believe any other motor would have survived that much abuse or heat..!!

Appreciated, really good advice. So any suggestions on a particular tp? Size, kv etc? 60mph, short grass, dirt bashing.

What voltage, car, esc ya running,do ya wanna go throu grass in summer without any heat issues...there's so many veribles that come into play..tire size can make a huge difference..some tires grow 1 1/2in larger at 60mph..complete setup would be best to give you my opinion

Yes they are very tough.killed a 3640-6600kv on 3s and a 4030-8000kv on 2s this season..blowover with 3640 an rpms shot to the moon instantly.cant remember rpm b4 exploding, but it was a jaw dropping rpm..the 8000kv the pinion came off an it went to 140,000rpms before coming apart..that's just insane..I abuse them so hard speedruning.ive done well with spectrum motors also..I love overvolting motors..cheap ones will blow your mind also

Strictly 4s in a lightish talion, stock wheels and tyres & backflip lp's. Summer yes, through short grass and dirt. Temps here rarely get above 25c/77f for sustained periods. Don't mind using a fan. More than likely pair it up with a max 8 g2 160a. was thinking possibly a 4050? Y or d wind? Trouble is they're over what you suggested, the 160a threshold of the esc in 1700kv-2200kv. Or is the max amps peak current not continuous. 🤦

My few cents based on my 4S vehicles:

1. Max6g2 with a TP4050-2830 in my DR8. It's my ramp jumpcar and it purpose is to rev in air. General bashing the motor will run hot before the pack is empty (even when geared appropriately)

2. mmx8s with a TP4070CM-2700 in my hobao Hyper SSTE (Talion-like lightweight truggy). Esc ran hot before i but a high rpm fan on it. Motor can run fanless. Perfect for large open field. Insane speeds and jumps, but not really agile in turning. For usage on my small backyard track i had to replace the motor for a cheap 4074-1900 for less weight/power and the ability to reduce diff fluid thickness as TP power needs it to be thick.

The 4050 1950kv d wind and 2100kv wind are bothe great motors to run with 160a..both 8s capable also.heres 2100kv on 8s in mojove with max6.great 4s also

Bl150a quikrun is also a great esc an cheaper than max8

Now that I like!
What's the specs on that noto?

Edit
Disregard, 2100kv on 6s, 4050. Batshit fast.
@Woodentop .. That's pretty much the motor I have in my Talion  It's pretty nuts when you wind it up (if you've got the space:ROFLMAO:)
Can't remember what mine's geared to, but I was very conservative with it as it was just simply too fast..!!

IMHO In this case its merely the GRP's (and gearing reduction) that make it run like that. That'll work on any 1/8 scale with some decent power in it.
