pricey, right!
But, if you figure a quality body will cost $75+ it might be worth it. I would get the body with decals no wing and custom paint per pace car or something classic.

I have been looking into vacuum forming and understand why their prices are this high. Some of their bodies are polycarbonate and others like this one are lexan. The sheet of plastic alone runs around 85.00 my cost. I'd assume buying in the bulk like they do, it is cheaper, but still its pricey stuff.
