Does anyone know if there is an aluminum rod upgrade available for the NERO? I have the Arrma plastic upgrades and they are just as bad as the original. Very disgusted with this problem. If you know of any aluminum ones, Please post part# and where to get them.

Check the Nero forums for the member who upgraded to Associated rod ends and was very happy with the results.

It's tempting to go to aluminum when you're experiencing plastic part failures but if you replace a cheap part that's plastic with an aluminum part, you're just going to start breaking something more expensive further up the line. Some parts have some failure designed into them to protect more expensive/critical parts of the vehicle. If you make the rod ends to sturdy you may begin to destroy suspension arms, rockers, rocker posts or even bulkheads.

Another thought....Maybe some type of retention strap to keep the suspension from overextending might help. If you're pushing the truck that hard, maybe it needs something to keep the arms from pulling the rockers and rods past the point of articulation and towards the point of failure.

I just ordered a set of Big Rock shocks with the Heavy Duty Rod ends for 41$ delivered. They have plenty more. Got the set of wheels too....

oh no....no bueno... Im totally happy with the Nero shocks - no issues but...my boy has a Losi XXL2 with 1/5 scale shocks wheels & tires and the big shocks are really impressive so I just grabbed these. will post comparison pics

soooo.....looks like i am going to have to make some...I found some aluminum variations that I was planning on ordering...some mods may be needed ..they were from integy...but I was hearing that some alum products from integy are poorly cast low grade so alum and would just be more of a pain.. on epay...I found some made of steel for 1/5 th scale that I was going to try ..will have to look for them again...but surely if you see something let us know...I will find that link again and get some on order...or at least be sure to post it here ..

but again...as mentioned in other threads...if we make this too rigid what else will be in danger?...seems like the rod and shock ends may be seen as our early warning devices...or fuses for that matter...so..let's think on it a bit...

..it's train season...been messing with trains quite a bit lately and I dropped the ball on this issue ..

The more I think about this issue, the more I believe this is related to suspension overtravel. When you look at the suspension rod end failures that keep occurring, it seems to me that they are being stretched to the point of failure when the suspension travels beyond it's maximum distance. Stop the overtravel and you'll solve the problem.

yeah...back in the day...one way we controlled over travel ..was to put rubber tubes over the shock shafts....like surgical tubing...easy enough back then with exposed shock shafts...but with nero...you would have to wrap it over the shock shaft boots...or ditch the boots and over wrap the shocks with baloons to keep dirt out or some of these other types of shock covers...

with all the benching up those boots do...it gets close to doing the same purpose as the surgical tubes...

to make our cars lower. ..we would put the surgical tubes inside the shocks under the shock piston...ahhh...the dirt oval days...

I think some kind of a strap like the real monster trucks have to keep suspension travel controlled is what it will take. I'm pondering on it right now but my washing machine committed suicide this weekend so I've been dealing with bigger problems and can't wrench on cars.

on my 5th scale. ..I used Para cord...to strap the suspension travel ..works really will...will see if I can come up with something..

How about these? They come in different sizes.

I found them on ebay first, 140mm length.
2 for $7.00

yeah...why not try some...see if you can figure out some clever way to mount them...

I have only broken 2 shock rod ends to date. I am not using Nero ones though. If I break others I may try this limit strap, but for now I have no need. I have bigger issues with my Nero to deal with at the moment. Lol.

I have the team associated SC8 #89077. These are an exact match for replacing the lower rod ends. Well the length is the same but there are two widths, the smaller of the two is what works.(I squeezed them into the lower a-arm). I haven't had any broken rod ends since.

Thats good to know for an option. I'm still using 2 revo ends in the front and 2 Kraton ends in the rear. So far it's been working great.
I also have some thunder tiger ends to replace the push rod ends I believe. I have had them for a while and now forgot what I got them for originally, but I think I have 8, soo they have to be for the pushrods. Lol.

I've pulled a rod end off by but never broke the eye. I think some of those straps above would probably do the trick. The problem is getting them to work on the Nero. It has a less than traditional suspension design.

Yeah I agree. I have only pulled 1 end out, broke the others. As far as the strap it coipd be mounted to the bar above the shocks in the rear, and maybe near the front body posts. You are right though, there isn't too much space to mount a strap. One would have to get intuitive. Haha

I think I found an aluminum rod end solution. I just placed an order for the following parts:
http://store.rc4wd.com/101mm-397-Internally-Threaded-Aluminum-Link-Silver-4_p_4448.html
http://store.rc4wd.com/Aluminum-Black-M3-Rod-End-with-Steel-Ball-10_p_4462.html
http://store.rc4wd.com/M3-x-15mm-Set-Screw-10_p_2089.html

While the stock push rod is slightly longer (103mm vs 101mm), I should be able to adjust by adding a thin M3 hex nut. I'll let you all know if this works out.
Certainly keep us updated!

Those look sweet! I didn't realize that there was a third link for the set screws. Almost made an ass of myself, lol. Please let us know how they work because they look awesome!! I may have to jump on that wagon also though and give them a try!

Looks like that may work. Please let us know how it works out
