I've had my Kraton 6S EXB V2 since release and am now looking to upgrade the motor/ESC combo. The Hobbywing Max6 G2 with the 4990 motor seems like a strong option. That said, is there any indication Hobbywing might release a new combo this year, or should I go ahead with the upgrade?
Aside from the M2C (or other brands) ESC mount, is there anything else I’ll need for a smooth install? I’m currently running the high speed pinion with stock electronics, but I assume it may be too small for the new setup. Any advice is appreciated

Thanks!

Check out Island Hobby Nut for IronManRC Trifecta motor mounts. Those mounts let you pull the diff or spool without removing the mount. Super convenient for maintenance and re-gearing.

I can get away with a 21t pinion in my MOJO with the HobbyWing setup and dual motor fans. Don’t remember the difference in spur gear teeth from the Kraton, though. As always with new setups, start conservatively on the gearing and watch motor temps as you grow pinion teeth.

The g2 was released fairly recently, won't likely see another update for a bit.
The max6 is awesome, great upgrade!
The 4990 is too big in my opinion, but if you like overkill, it hit the nail on the head. Will run hard and cool.
If you have access to a 3d printer, print the adapter rather than paying for shiney, pretty, beautiful carbon.
Make sure you have some good lipos to pair, that combo will eat cheap stuff for breakfast.

I was considering taking the 4990 out of my K6, leaving the Max6, & try a spare, new 4282 1780kv I got. Just too see. 4990 is a killer powerplant. Rocket has a 4998 2050kv now. Snap!!!

The Max6 G2 4990 killed a couple of my lipos. One was not a Amazon blue light special. One was a Zeee, I know, I know--other, not much better, gensacearespammers

The 4990 pulled 318 amps on data log...

Thanks for the info thus far, any recommendations on 19-22t gear?

I should have created a build log when I swapped in all the M2C dogbones, motor mount, servo, etc

I've never run the 4990 because its so heavy. I'm currently running a Max6/Hobbystar 4282 in my Kraton and a Max6/4292 in my Talion XL and they both have plenty of power and don't get too hot.

Should I create a poll at the top for the two options Hobbywing offers for that Max6 combo? If so, how can I make one

But I'm basically trying to figure out which combo to go with and the correct pinion to throw on the motor and anything additional required to get this system installed.

Correct; I am considering going with the 4990 - would that be a bad choice? If so, what combo do they offer that is highly recommended as I thought the 4990 was the motor of choice?

That's the battery it killed in mine.

Drop the one you replaced it with that has shown successful; might as well throw it All into one thread so I can just order everything at the same time.
And anything else anyone sees beneficial

If you strictly buying a max6 combo, the 4990 is the only real option.
The 4278 2250 motor is my favorite in my 6s from hobbywing, but it runs hot. Needs light tires and to watch temps. But it's an animal for its size. Not something I would reccomend for a heavy kraton or big tires though.
There isn't a hobbywing motor that I'd reccomend for the 6s big truck range. A 4278-4290 1800ish kv is where I think is ideal for a light/midweight rig. Hobbywing motors are either too big or too high kv for the size range.
That said, plenty of people use the 4990 and absolutely love it. I'd rather be lighter than have a wildly overpowered motor. The 4990 isn't a bad choice, just not mine. The 5690 however is the wrong choice for the majority of bashing kratons.

If the combo doesn't seem to be ideal; would Max6 G2 Esc + what/ who's motor to pair it with?
Just trying trying to lay out options prior to purchase. I was going combo for ease of purchase/ install & it seems to be super common

It's all been posted. 4278 , 4282, 4292. Pick a kv, go from there. 4990 is awesome. It's fun. It's too much even for a fully built out 14-16lb Kraton
