hello,

Anyone running tp 4070cm 2200kv on 6s; if so what size pinion? Right now I am planning on 16t.

I am not going higher than 6s. is the hobbywing max 5 good enough esc, because I also have a castle xlx?

Advice...ditch the HR motor mount. The stock motor mount is much more solid. You may flex your rear chassis up, the HR mount isn’t very rigid, then you will start abnormal wear on your pinion and spur gear. Unless your HR mount was made with good tolerances. The one I have wasn’t. That HR mount would be fantastic if it was beefier and the slide fit in with closer tolerances. I’ve run motors that long but not 2200kv. Sweet setup you got going together. In my opinion, I feel the stock motor mount will do better for you. Although you do have the aluminum chassis braces it might be fine.

Yes, the hr motor mount does seem to wobble a little, but I have not tightened the set screw all the way yet. I am using the hr center diff support as well on the front side. I might get the aluminum top plate to make sure everything is solid.

I have a Redcat TR-MT8E be6s and love that slide motor mount. It is more stable than the hr because it uses a set screw both top and bottom.

The rear motor brace should hopefully keep the motor aligned/secured and gear mesh proper.

Rear motor mount is actually a 40mm nitro muffler brace ;)

Very nice work. If you use a small pinion, the motor mount slide will be more locked in. It will be tucked in deeper to the rest of the mount. I milled the face of my slide down, It gave more contact area to the motor end bell.

Joostin420- Man, that TP 4070CM is a blistering turbine. I’m not a fan of Castle at all, but if you are only running 6s then you could save a little money and use your XLX and it’ll do everything you want and more. Max6 would do just as well and somebody has them on sale for $129 right now. I wouldn’t start with anything less than a 20t pinion cuz it’ll just be a waste of your time. Matter of fact, I would grab one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Team-Losi-40T-Spur-Gear/dp/B004K6K014 and throw on whatever pinion you have. That 4070cm is one of TP’s best motors cuz there’s not much that it can’t handle. Heck, I was gonna throw one of my 4050’s in my Typhon, but you’ve inspired me to use the 4070cm with your brilliantly repurposed rear mount. Hope you don’t mind if I borrow your idea
Give me a shout if you ever need any help with TP’s

don’t just bash it, break it!

How do you make that TEN spur work on the Kraton? Spool?

was talking to friend with nitro boat and mentioned it had a 40mm muffler brace.

Interested in your gearing suggestion also. More detail please.

Thank,

Justin

Oops so sorry guys,

I dropped the wrong link; this link is for the 38t spur that meshes with the arrma spool. There is also a 40t just like it but this one came up first:

https://www.amazon.com/Integy-Hop-ups-C25280-Billet-Machined/dp/B0052W6BP4

They work well; when I get a sec, I’ll pull mine apart for pictures . Again, sorry guys for any confusion that I may have caused.

what is the benefit of using a smaller spur gear (40t versus the stock 50t); is it just to be able to run a larger pinion?

what specific pinion/spur would you suggest; this is what I was looking at to determine calculations:
Calculator is in the comments of the video poster.

I am not doing speed runs, just bashing, and nothing crazy; I just like speed :D

thanx,

justin

Added the twin turbo fan to the motor which some thermal pads to fit tightly. Installed the outcast wheelie bar, and measuring to cut some carbon fiber for the max 5 esc shelf.

You must use your castle xlx, a spool, an extended motor mount, a bigger pinion, and a capacitor for your castle.

This guy is running the HW max 5 with the 4070cm 2200kv on 8s without problems; curious why you suggest the castle xlx versus the HW max 5?

Is there a pre-made cap pack I can add to the HW max 5?

I am only going to be running 6s. Planning on upping gearing to 20/50 pinion/spur. The rear motor brace should make the mounting solid and stiffen up the chassis at the same time once I layout the recessed hole-slot to secure it.

Thanx,

Justin

You can run with the both, i used before a max 5 and after an xl2 more a cap pack.
There is a speed difference.
The max 5 haves a lot of safeties, the xl2 nothing, you can change the level of safeties on the xlx with the castle link.
The cap pack makes a difference too, and if you want to use a fan you have to use an other lipo.
What is your goal max speed or max speed with your center diff?
Do you want to spend money?
If you want max speed, use a center spool and a bigger pinion, something as 34/34 ratio, or a bigger pinion than the spur gear 42/36 for example.
You don't need a rear motor brace.
For the video, the guy will have a better result with a leopard 4282 2200kv, the 4070cm is for race or speed run.

Finished the esc mount plate, added front/rear hr aluminum bulkheads, rubber sealed bearings, and hr aluminum steering set.

Waiting for the 3x hr aluminum Diff housings for the front/center/rear, diff shims, hr aluminum wing mount, and hd carbon fiber shock towers from Germany - want this thing to be bulletproof ;)

Very goog job your esc plate, i would like some other pictures.
Did you buy your shock towers to Pos Racing or speed...something.If you need special parts you can ask to Michael Meyer in germany (on FB) Alza Racing in Slovenia, or Markhor's design in Australia, don't forget GKA in Canada better quality than HR for chassis braces or servo mount.

Bought the hd carbon fiber towers from maxspeedpartsde on eBay. The Servo mount is voltage hobbies.

I got the maxspeed on my Typhon, they are very thicks , it's a good quality, the pos racing are just more pretty.
For the servo mount, i never seen Voltage hobbies parts mounted, i have a pos racing (the same than HR , but the plate is made with carbon fiber)The better one is the GKA, made in one part.
But i made one shipper explained how to do in this forum, it will be the same than voltage hobbies, but shipper.
