Arrma RC's
  1. 4x4-Mega
Hi guys, I bought ARRMA 1/10 SENTON 4X4 V3 MEGA 550 Brushed Short Course RC Truck RTR (awesome!, me and son a love it!) a few weeks ago and

It came with the Nimh battery and for each runs with it the battery has take too long time in charge (8-12 hours).

Can someone recommend a suitable battery for the Mega 550 that has better performance?

Battery is: Dynamite 3300mAh 8.4V 7-Cell Speedpack 2 Hump NiMH Battery

Thanks!

Getting a better charger would drastically reduce the charge time. I think NiMh's can be charged at 1c (c = capacity) so your current battery could be charged at up to 3.3V which would take about an hour. Getting a 2s lipo battery is also an option, in which case you will need a new charger that can balance lipos. These batteries will give you more run time as well as increased performance. They will kill the motor a little faster than running NiMh, however, since those brushed motors are very inexpensive, it's a price that I'd be willing to pay.

If you're not familiar with lipo safety, the Spektrum Smart batteries are a great option. The charger below could handle your NiMh as well as lipo batteries, if you decide to go that route.

That charger is also available on Amazon. Along with a Spektrum 2s battery.

If you've got a hobby store near by, you could also see what they've got available. I generally try to support my local stores when possible.

Yep, like the previous poster said the charger is more the culprit than your battery. I bought this charger when my son bought his Typhon Mega. https://www.hobbytown.com/protek-rc...e-battery-charger-ptk-8522/p-xuhnhc9q3uabg4yz We also picked up several Zeee 2s lipo batteries from Amazon. I know it seems expensive spending $65+ for a charger, but it will save you a huge amount of time. Also like the previous poster mentioned the Spektrum batteries and charger take all the complication out of lipo charging. It all depends on simple you want the process to be. The Spektrum route is more expensive for the charger and batteries, but is more simple. The ProTek charger and generic batteries will be cheaper, but you have to program in your charge rates per battery, so it's a bit more complicated until you get comfortable with it

When using a lipo, it is imperative to enable LVC (low voltage cutoff) on the ESC. The car's manual should indicate how to do this.

Wow @Jackjax801, we appreciate your quick response.

It's bad to hear that "They will kill the motor a little faster than running NiMh...", it's true but we don't like that our megan not working well and it's dead your motor.

At the moment I only encourage myself to buy the battery charger that you suggest! and I thank you for the recommendation.

God bless you and God bless the USA

Sticking with NiMh definitely works. Could also look for some additional batteries since charging won't take so long. Glad to hear you and your family are enjoying that Senton.

Not a bad price for comparable NiMh batteries, and possibly one with more mAh (run time).

Hi @Jackjax801!,

Thanks! again for all the details you give us. We enjoy it too much but only on weekends, in the week I have to work, my wife does too, and my son goes to the garden.

I already bought the battery charger you suggested to us, we going to be test the new battery charger.
The next time we will buy these batteries that will help us to enjoy more time to play.

God bless you and God bless the USA.

If your motor does go out, ( I've had my senton mega 550 for 2 years and the motor is still perfect) you can by a new one for cheap here
