TLDR: Is the Arrma 1/8 Raider XL Mega discontinued ? Are there any good alternatives 1/8 for under 300$ RTR ? (no battery is fine, I have some)

I currently own a 1/16 Traxxas Slash, It’s pretty fun but I d like something a lot

Larger that I can use on a lot more terrains, hence looking for a 1/8.

At the same time I don’t really want to spend a fortune, as long as it candy 30mph it’s fine, but bonus points

If it can be upgraded (brushless, limo, etc …)

I was really interested in the Arrma 1/8 Raider XL Mega, but it seems discontinued, some sites say it will be back mid July but not sure I believe it.

Some brushed ones can still be found, I suppose I could start with that and upgrade it later …

I have found RC King Rattler and Redcat landslide as alternatives, anything else ?

Are you wanting 2wd?

I believe the Raider XL is the same size - Wheelbase / track width as the Fury - so SCT size. Which is also basically the same size as a 1/8 buggy. With that in mind, there are a few "desert buggies" that are sold as 1/10, but are SCT's with buggy bodies - so they will be 1/8 buggy size.

Here are two I have been keeping an eye on, both under $200, brushless -
From Hobbyking, the Desert Fox -

Note that HK just released a V2 to the Fox, with a new ESC and motor. The original ESC and motor ( in the referenced thread) was not great.

From Banggood, the FS Racing 53625 "Maurader"-

This one was sold for a while as a Helion buggy, and there is a decent aftermarket parts selection for it, from RPM, and lots of aluminum on Aldiexpress.

Also, when you say the "RC King Rattler", did you mean the Hobbyking Rattler? That car got pretty bad reviews by everyone I saw reviewing it, I would avoid it. RCGroups.com has several long threads on that car, none speak highly of it.

RCGroups actually has long threads on all three of these cars, so I would head over there and do some searching / reading.

Thanks those look interesting.

I'm not necessarily dead-set on 1:8 and 2wd is fine. The 1:16 4x4 traxxas slash I have is plenty fast and fun but it's pretty much limited to road or small gravel, so I'm looking for something much larger I can use on short grass, trails etc.... I prefer something with fairly low center og gravity so buggys are good.

This Vikar Bison model also looks pretty great for the price : https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/sho...AR-RACING-BISON-V2-Brushless-4WD-RTR-RC-Truck

The Redcat Landslide is a lot of fun. Just need to go up to 300K on the center diff fluid to keep the front tires from ballooning. Nice, big and durable truck.

Best regards,
Brian
