Ok so being a noob to Arrma I had ordered two 11.1v 5000mah 3s lips batteries with 1C5 connectors. So I ordered a Spectrum s1500 smart charger. Not realizing that I need a separate power supply for it. So my question is do I have to buy a power supply for this charger or can I get an adapter and charge the batteries off my Traxxas ez peak charger. If so anybody got a link to the adapters.

11.1V 5000mAh 3S 100C Smart Hardcase LiPo Battery: IC5

Item No.

No adapter, you would need a decent DC supply to get this running or off your car battery.
Suggest to exchange it for an AC type charger unless you are handy with a soldering iron.

Recommendations, skip to pg 40 or so to be more recent.

You can get power supplies that plug in directly but they are $$$$, a DIY solution would still run you ~ $50 with knowledge.

Got a link to the specific pack you bought? Does it have a balance plug or just the iC5 smart connector?

The only difference between Traxxas and Spektrum Lios is the color of the wrap. They all need chargers and any charger will work but the SMART chargers will do a lot more for you if you do not have the knowledge.

Suggest to get an AC smart-charger instead, that will get you up and running quickly. Return your DC only version and get this one instead:

Saves you some money and a lot of headaches.

Looks like you got the Spectrum Smart batteries and you have a Smart charger... that's a plug and play ecosystem. If I'm not mistaken, Spektrum just takes a wall wart. For DC-only systems that have banana plug or similar inputs, you can pick up a Meanwell switching power supply at 15v or so (or whatever range your charger specifies) that puts out ~150w per pack that you can simultaneously charge. I got mine from Amazon for around $20 and I charge one 6s brick at a time.

Oh, well, you could post a part number as there are variations to the packs that determines the plugs it has.

If I google the literal of what you pasted, the first thing I get to is this one:
https://www.horizonhobby.com/produc...ardcase-lipo-battery-ic5/SPMX50003S100H5.html

Which has a balance plug on it. I think they have ones that don't, but I could be mistaken.

If it has a balance plug, you just need a traxxas -> ic5 adapter, then you can charge it on your traxxas charger, but you have to use the balance port as well which is covered up buy a rubber thing on the charger. The thing on the left on the front of the charger that says "Traxxas", that comes out and a balance port is then accessible:

Then you use this adapter for the main ic5 plug:

Thanks man that's a huge help!

No problem. When I first started running electric, I had the traxxas dual id charger. I outgrew it pretty fast (like a month) and ended up with a dynamite 4x100w charger which got me by for a year or so. The packs I was using were SMC 2S 9000mah packs. The traxxas 2x4A charger would time out and I had to run through the charge cycle twice for each battery. Was annoying and you can't change the time limit.

The Smart S1500 is a much better charger, so I'd be looking into getting a power supply to drive that thing. A 60A/24V PSU would drive it with enough headroom for you to get a second charger down the line. You can pay a small fortune for an RC grade 24V PSU, or you can buy one built out of server PSU's (what I did), or you can build one pretty cheap out of server PSU's off ebay (what I also did), but you need to know what your doing.

About $100 for a 24V 62A 1500W PSU made out of server PSU's:

I had bought the Dell 71A 24V from that guy, but the fans were annoying and I sold it off then built my own out of HP power supplies which were a lot quieter.
