Arrma RC's
  1. Kraton 6s
My first post here, I promise I read through some threads before posting.

But...I recently acquired a Kraton 6S on trade and I've been out of the RC game a long time.

Just looking for a high quality battery or batteries to use in this beast and a matching charger. I don't want outrageous priced, but nothing close to bottom of the line

Recommendations?

I run HRB, Ovonic, SMC, Youme, Goldbat, China Hobby Line.
Best batts for the money right now, are CNHL China Hobby Line the white G+ packs. http://www.chinahonnyline.com

I just picked up a set of these. Well built and work great so far, but only have a few runs in at this point. I do feel like they pack a little more punch than my other batteries.

Best right now is the Turnigy Graphene Panther. BUT, a very close second is the CNHL mentioned above. The Turnigy are more expensive for a slight improvement in power. So take that for what it's worth.

The Hota D6+ has been a crowd favorite AC/DC charger. There are 50 others... but that one comes up a lot. Decent amps/watts on AC and double the wattage on DC if you get a PSU to drive it. Can handle charging a pair of most 6S packs we run (5000-6500mah) at 1C on AC. On DC, you could charge at 2C.

I've been running HRB 50C 5000mah 3S packs and Hobbystar 50C 6200mah 3S packs in my outcast and other 6S trucks. My other trucks need 2 3S packs, so I run the same in my outcast and just stack them up.

I think I'll try the CNHL packs when the hobbystar's die as they are pretty heavy. I like the lighter 5000mah HRB packs.

Is there a C rating I should be keeping my eye on? I saw some serious amp hour batteries, but they had a far lower C rating. Am I to understand it would drive slow, but forever?

That’s not an ideal scenario either as heat builds with extended run times. It’s best to keep your weight down and swap packs. The weight reduction improves performance, reduces stress on all components, and allows the electronics to cool during the break.

Also it’s super ironic that your name is AmericanPride4Ever but your avatar is of a Canadian ??✌?

C rating (in theory) is how many amps the battery can push, without damage. The Without Damage is the important part. If you have a battery that can only supply 50A, but the motor is drawing 100A, the battery will be damaged - it will heat up, probably puff, maybe go up in flames.

Also worth noting, that almost all C ratings are inflated, exadurated, or outright lies. The BEST batteries available to us hobby folks make about 55C. Most that are labeled as 90C-150C are really around 25C-35C. But a REAL 25C battery will do OK in our cars, so long as you are not doing speed runs....

I would add that the current crop of Arrma ESCs have been having issues with lower rated lipos lately, but they seem to have released a firmware patch to resolve these issues, but it requires a replacement from HH. The out of the box units today are hobbled by low C packs. We are seeing premature LVC around 4.0v with under 50C packs (meaning labeled 50C or less).

The manuals recommend 30C or more as well. So keep that in mind when your buying. I usually buy 45C+ and no less. Doesn't help if the pack is really a 10C... I have a couple traxxas 25C packs that puffed on me after one run. I had them, wasn't using them and wanted to try 6S. One puffed, the other survived. From what I understand, their later 25C packs do better... but still, for what they cost, they aren't worth it.

Yeah, a TRUE 25C pack will work with our cars. Problem is most packs labled 25C arn't. I have a pair of 3s HobbyKing 25c packs that I bought after following the RCGroups battery forum. They test out at around 28c, supposedly. I have run them in my Granite (3s) and my Outcast (6s). For sure it does not have the punch of my Graphines, but they work, and they were like $25 each. :)

How about 2 of these?

And assuming the D6 pro is better than the Plus? Hard to find a good place to compare.

Please excuse my ignorance if I overlooked something or made a rookie mistake. Been a very busy last week. Bed at 2am and up at 8 or 9 max
Actually... wouldn't the $5ish difference be with the extra 1000 mAH? Maybe I should grab 4 of these then?

It looks like the "Plus" version has a better built in AC power supply. 300w vs 200w on the Pro. I don't see any other difference, looking at the specs. So, I'd say spend the extra $15 and get the Plus version.
