  1. Granite
Recently been having some heat problems on my motor when “racing.” Currently would be a ‘gryphon’ I guess. Typhon chassis, arms, and wing with everything else granite. Stock electronics. This was minor enough to put up with, however I now have a dust cover on, and it’s warmer weather.

Specifically with a dust cover, what do you guys use to get better airflow/cooling to the motor?

1. Cut out the side windows on the body shell ,for better ventilation.

2. You could also gear down the pinion gear by 2 tooths , it'll reduce your top end speed but will also help with lowering your motor temps.

3. Or swap out the OEM fan with something better/Bigger size. (You'll need a 3D printed fan adapter if you upsize.)

Not something I would recommend but what I did living in the South for my 3S

This is the last rig I have a small lipo battery running the motor fan...it is not the stock motor. This motor runs a bit cooler than stock.

Last, I have an aluminum 40mm fan on the ESC. It is not the stock ESC but a Firma 130 so the ESC runs cooler as well.

Both keep my temps well under bashing in the TN hot delta/gulf heat

My main concern is that just venting or upping the fan will not do much with the dust cover trapping heat in as it keeps dirt out.

I actually printed up a hood scoop with an underside vent, but didn’t put it in since I got the cover.

Gear down. Option one.
Option two.. 40mm fan. Not the cheap ones. I have the link to the ones that I used and they bring the temperature down up to 30-40 degrees. After a speed run. My temperature would be around 130… to cool down the motor I would use a 4S battery and watch the temperature drop within seconds. But a small 3s and a 40mm your temperature will drop

Do your own testing.... I have not found body openings to do much for me.

Infraction - has cut windows and some bodies vent in the hood and the sides by the doors. Did not help on heat
Lost DB Pro/Lasernut - Have open bodies still got hot...until I put better fans on
Fireteam - Removed the inside cage so open body. Still can get out until I put 40mm tall fans

For me....I kill the throttle, I can deplete 6S batteries in 7-9min on the Infraction and maybe 10min on the Fireteam, etc. The point is I hit the electronics hard so openings in the body did me no good. Dust cover would just trap some heat.

Each one of us bashes differently.

All my rigs have a temp gauge on board, good fans, and mostly all closed bodies like the Kraton EXB and Talion EXB. Good fans, that's the tipping point.

Good luck (y)

I have a dust cover on my senton and have thought about cutting a square hole right above the 40mm fan, then taking the fan guard and mounting it over the dust cover trapping it in between the 2.. not sure how well it would hold up though seeing only 4 screws would be holding/pinching it in-between the fan and fan guard? 🤔
Also accessing the inside would require removal of the fan guard!!

The dust cover is your biggest obstacle to keep things cool imo. It restricts airflow too much so that convection has a tougher time moving heat outside the chassis and body. Your heatsink and fan can try all they want to remove heat off the motor can. But if all they do is transfer heat to the air inside the dust cover, and then that heats up, now you're just blowing hot air across the heatsink, and that won't do much good. I'd ditch the dust cover for a run or two and see how temps change. Next, I'd ditch the stock arrma heatsink/fan and get a clip/clamp on fan mount and fan to blow directly across the motor.

I found the scorched rc guards to work really well for my Senton.

What was that link? I’ve been hesitant to change fans as I don’t know all the ins and outs of what’s possible with the correct voltage off my esc and everything. Seemed like a good chunk of learning to do.

Running off the esc wouldn’t cut it. Quality fans draw more than what factory bec can pull. Rendering in most cases in adequate. That’s why I used to buy a single 3s or 4S battery that was super small.

Toss that Chassis cover dude.(n) The only way. Or you will be spinning your wheels there.
I hate the covers anyway. Awkward to use too. Had the Dusty Motors Ones for many of my rigs. . Been there. They are all the same.
Yeah unless it is 30F degrees outside , all will run hotter. Just a fact with covers. The dust and Dirt collects on the cover and the electrics just can't breathe. Little air flow. You are just choking/cooking your electrics there. And finer dust still collects inside onto the chassis anyway.(n)
Don't matter how many fans you got going there, chassis covers are NG IMHO. It was was just an RC fad, that came and went 5+ years ago. Dusty Motors in the UK was the first to offer them. Years past, many had used Ladies Nylon stockings to cover their chassis, so it became a short lived thing to buy these.
