Arrma RC's
  1. Kraton 6s
I have a Kraton and I'm now interested in a rock racer, rock climber, forest navigator that can still bash a bit and still handle on gravel.

How does the Big Rock handles these situations? I started looking for a 1/5 electric dessert buggy but didn't see anything I can afford. (Don't want to spend much more than the cost of these 2 mentioned) The Axial is more like a 1/6 buggy - can the Big Rock match or exceed the Axial and is there any thing out there that is better? I wish Arrma made an Axial Yeti XL equivalent.

Is your Nero the Big Rock? IF not then is the Nero versatile enough to approach the performance of a Yeti XL? Can a Big Rock rock race adequately - anything approaching the specialist Yeti XL? I'd prefer to stay with the durability and parts support that Arrma provides but I'd really like an adequate rock racer. I think the Big rock can crawl and climb well - right?

The issue with the Nero/Big Rock is they won't do well at slow speeds. Has someone figured out a way to crawl with these? My Nero won't crawl.

Hmm, the answer is not so easy. I can just compare between Nero and Nero BR yet.
You can crawl with both, but on 4s and with a sensitive throttle finger. At first you will change the steering servo to have more steering power.
I will see, a neighbor has buyed a Yeti XL but we meet him not last week on our "playground".
Than I can tell you the major differences! ;)
But Cheez and BigSilly450x are right, both cars have a total different target market.
If you like a kind of bashing and just little crawling, the Nero or the Nero BR will cover that. On the BR you will need other tires; the originals have no grip. The normal Nero tires are better.
Maybe you have to take a closer look of the chassis design of these cars. If I compare the XL design to my AX10,... then the XL is not a crawler!

That's correct. Nero/BR are monster trucks and Yeti XL is classified as monster buggy. It's more of a rock racer but does very well crawling. A 2 speed transmission has been developed for the Xl which apparently really improves crawling ability. They are like children.....different but you can't love one more than the other

Yeti XL has the option of adding a 1st gear and has pretty impressive crawling abilities out of the box, with the exception of you cannot lock the differentials. Running the 4 link rear axle it gives impressive articulation!!! The Nero family can't compete with this. But that's not to say you can't still rock race/crawl the Nero family of monsters. Both are around 15+ lbs running 6S, both are capable of running 50MPH from the box!!! The XL might be sporting a little longer wheel base though, but the Nero is wider. It's kind of a double edge sword... Both can be made to run the same environment and one will shine a little more than the other, depending upon the terrain... I would say watch as many YouTube videos as possible of both rigs running in every environment known to man!!! Then decide from there ;)

The XL is a BEAST!!! ;)

Would recommend running RPM A-Arms on the XL.

Is the Big Rock better than the Traxxas Summit when it comes to these environments? I really love the Yeti XL - but I've been doing some research and it seems like I would have to spend a lot more money to make it tougher like the kit version. They need to bring out a RTR with the improvements of on the kit. I like the Arrma line-up because of the promise of durability. The Big Rock seems to have benefited from the original Nero and has bee upgraded. I think I'd like to eventually get both the Big Rock and the Yeti XL ver 2 when it comes out.

So Big Rock vs. Traxxas Summit? Anyone owns both or know about both?

*big Grind* ... That was also my problem. And I had the opportunity to see and drive both next to each other at my dealer side.
My first impressions was 1:0 to Nero Big Rock. The Summit ist also more "HD" than the E-Revo, wich I decided bevor.
But here also,. both cars are different again, specially of gear and diff locks.
After I asked my dealer for Summit, he showed me the BR and gave me the offer to drive them on the parking place in front of the shop.
)There are also some little ramps and it is possible to run on grass and dirt)
After around 20 minutes I found my favorite. But thats total subjective. Someone else might have decided otherwise...

If I had to decide between Yeti XL and Summt....-> XL

Summit has a two speed transmission, locking differentials, head and tail l.e.d. lights, and awesome runtime on 4S. The Summit has proven itself time and time again!!! Don't get me wrong, the differential gears are going to be a weak point if you are going to be running that 70.1:1 1st gear on terrain that can cause the tires to bind up. With that being said I love the Summit!!! I have owned 2 Summits and never had any problems with either of them. The Yeti XL is a seriously fast and furious 6S beast, with shorter rjntimes, but it 2X faster than the Summit! The XL can have a 1st gear transmission also, and can be made to crawl. But it's not like the Summit. The XL can run 50mph across anything in it's path!!! The Summit well 22mph and lots of plastic part's, same as the XL RTR. I love the Summit & Yeti XL!!! I would have to pick the Summit for the longer runtimes, just because I love driving rc car's a lot!!! ;) I'm not saying the XL is anything less than AWESOME!!! Because it truly is AWESOME!!! Now onto the BIG ROCK... This is a serious BEAST OF A MONSTER TRUCK!!! It can keep up with the Summit in any environment, can out run the Summit, and is 10X more durable than the Summit. Here's the one downfall to the Big Rock. The runtimes are pretty short when compared to the stock brushed Summit. Okay here's my answer to the shorter runtimes... I will buy more batteries when I can afford to!!! For me the winner here hand's down, the NERO BIG ROCK!!! Because of the durability, speed, power + you can add the Canyon A.T. tires from the Summit to the Big Rock, then gear it down around a 13T pinion and it's going to be unstoppable at any speed!!! I seriously hope all or at least some of my yapping helps you out ;)

:p with the normal pinion gear together with 6s the Big Rock will shredder the Summit tires! :blackeye:
Actual I am thinking about an wheel adapter to mount 1:6 wheels and tires onto the BR, but the dimensions are critical.
24mm hex and 18mm hole. Also the original hub is not long enough the make an simple adapter...
I already had buy a set of this size and thinking to fix the dimension problem, because I´ll looking to find a way that I don´t have to change the hubs. I want to keep the 17mm hubs to switch back easily to standard wheels.
The rims are beadlock and I the tires a very coarse. Wideness is the same than BR original but a little bigger.
They are front wheels from HPI, the rear wheels are wider but they where too heavy.

Will see what ideas my brain gives me in future.

Vor long time running and if 4s are enough, so check if you can get Lipo´s from SLS. It´s a German Shop, but maybe you can get this Lipo´s under another brand.

You can put two of them in each battery box and can reach 4s2p (14,8V 10000mA). I run that setup if I go into the forrest with my dogs to give them a chance to live their hunting tendencies and for "Outwork"! ;)

My girlfriend and me had also around 45Mins, but with 3s 5500mA, but very less bashing and driving more slowly the most time.
A little bit snow bashing in-between. But if you running "hardcore" .... maybe 20 mins , or just a little longer.
With 4s and 10000mA I was outside in the forrest more than one hour.

Hard for me to make a choice. I'd love to hear or better even - see a direct comparison. But above all I value a sturdy package that doesn't need extensive upgrading to perform as advertised.

Dude, I totally agree with you!!! ;)

Summit tires are very soft and sticky. But running them on 6S doesn't mean that you have to run around full throttle ;) So being a little light on the throttle, and all will be awesome ;)
