Those unwelcomed Hornets are going to get a nasty little surprise tomorrow...

I'm sure they are coming..
It's that "quiet before the storm"...

We've gotten weird and unpredictable storms around here lately. So, the bugs population are going to explode.

I'm ready for them.

How does this thing work?

I didn't get a chance to get those hornets yet..

When I get a chance I'll try to get my wife to snap some pics of my using it.
I won't have enough hands to work this contraption and video myself...

Hopefully I get to it later today or tomorrow..

Or, maybe I should print up a mount to hold my phone to the end of the pole too and get a close up.. IDK
Too much work to just kill some wasps.

Made some hand made ones for my job. Spray can gets locked in tubular frame on right side of last pic. Long pole gets clamped in holder on left side. Attach rope to small tab on gray spring as as you pull it, the gray piece comes down putting pressure on spray nozzle to release aerosol.

All wasps including the cicada ones are harmless unless you try to touch their nests.
Never had an issue with them. You can even remove their nests with a long pole and they are not smart enough to understand you are controlling that long pole.

Honey bees and the Africanized aggressive variants are another story. They will hunt you down!

(I did pest control for 7 years in a past life)

Yea i try to avoid them generally when walking the dog or if we take a walk with my daughter but i still like to have my bases covered. They are HUGE
I didn't realize you had them that far north. They are very common to see in July / August here in the south.
I actually caught one in a zip-lock bag to show my kids about 2 weeks ago. When they are looking around in the grass for a spot to nest they are easy to catch.

We used to live in staten island and had the normal cicadas every xx years. when we moved here in metuchen we started seeing them but ONLY in our condo built in the 40's nowhere else in the town has them and its genreally like you said july to aug depending on weather. When we moved here 6 yrs ago i parked my car in out condo lot , opened the door and there was no joke like 200 swarming a stretch of grass and i almost had a heart attack.... now we at least know what they are but still freak my 9 yr old out when they circle us!

I got stung before -right in the face- it was not a pleasant experience. Felt like someone slapped me with a stapler. And my face puffed up nice and red.
(at our old place that was right above the front door) when the nest was just a quarter size or two large with probably less than half a dozen of them.

This nest that we have right now is 6-8 inches across. With a Lot more hornets..

Now that we have kiddos, I don't want to take any chances.. it being right above the door to our backyard.
