Most probably run the installed stocker Spur to start. Wait till you drive it first out the box and am comfortable with it. Gearing is very subjective. What works for some may not work for you. We all drive differently. Trial and error using some extra Pinions first on hand is how its done. Cant be cheap about having extra pinions. How it is done. That's your call.
8s May be larger, but wont go Faster than a 1/8 Arrma platform by comparison. Do you have any of the 6s 1/8 Arrma's?? They are roughly 1/2 the weight of an 8s platform.
8s rigs are pushing a crazy 30+, give or take, Pounds depending on your chosen lipo Capacity.
They are a Very heavy Platform. Quite Overweight, IMHO. Probably why they break more easily. Less forgiving with even moderate normal impacts.
Out the box you will probably get 35-40 MPH max. With a tail wind.....;)
Pushing faster speeds, will really take a hit on your run times. And ESC/Motor Temps will rise with Taller gearing. A Temp Gun and a GPS Speed analyzer are tools you will need.
Large scale platforms generally are not faster than lighter 1/8 platforms.

Thanks for that yes I have the 1/8 typhoon it’s much faster and yes a lot lighter was just wondering top speed out of box there always a bit misleading it’s good to know thanks
Was wondering if went to a 23t spur is that too much on stock electronics?

Which one do you have, the Outcast or the Kraton? You seem to have a lot of experience with them and know all the weak points.

I read all of the AF 8s threads. From its Early Release and forward. It's why I passed on the 8s line. I like Arrma products in general. Just that their 6s line is the best. I would go to another brand if I wanted a large scale platform.
I suggest everyone do the same. read up. So they make an educated decision, before jumping in.
I have 18 rigs here of all types.

I love my 8s rigs..🤷🏻‍♂️ I have upgraded the steering components and CVD's but that's about it so far. I frequently send them 15-20 feet in the air. I'm around 4-6 months in.

I got to respect you dude.
Many do have good luck with 8s. I don't know why. I am sure RC experience along with a nice wallet dictates. Large scale is fun no doubt,
8s is considered an Expert level Platform.
And not for the faint of heart or any Newb. with empty pockets and zero RC knowledge.
I see them here, all over AF 8s threads.
Sometimes it appears that HH is even giving them away with price reductions... I wonder why?????;)

Edit.

I consider myself with a certain comfortable degree of RC Knowledge , Just I hate being a Slave to a platform that is so $needy$.
Call me gun shy, having so many models here already.
I've considerd an FG brand myself. E-converted.

I dumped all the money I've been saving from not drinking, and all the madness that comes with it, into this hobby. Pockets aren't empty but definitely don't have deep pockets either 😁😎

Hi guy’s looking at buying a new kraton 8s what speeds do they run out the box?
And what spur gear are people running on stock electronics?
Rocking a 30T pinion on the stock spur. Loads of fun, not as fast as a 6S but really a different experience. FYI, 30T might be a bit much for the stock Firma160/1250kV.

Cost to run really isn't that bad with kit breakers.

If you get an RTR I would do the shock mod and drill out the factory pistons:

It will help keep the shafts from bending.
