Hey guys,

I’d really love some input as to what brand of motor & ESC is more robust for the 8s.

I’m looking at the Mamba Castle XLX2 ESC and the Castle Creations 2028 1100Kv motor.

I’m not too familiar with Hobbywing , so I don’t know the equivalent ESC and motor for them. But was wondering if the equivalent motor and ESC is a better option?

While on the topic.

Are new battery connectors needed for this ESC, If so what are they?

What are the ESC & motor mounts required for install?

Lastly is it recommended I upgrade any of the differentials or increase the viscosity of the fluid?
Or
Are any other components recommended to be changed out for the increase in power?

Thanks a million guys

Castle of course :)

That’s what I keep reading across the board.

Would the 1100 be a better option than the 800?

Do you have this installed on your rig?
I'm just a castle fan boy.
My kraton has a HW setup as Castle doesn't make the size I wanted.

But from my understanding, the 800 would be the way to go.
I'm sure someone who has a castle system in their 8S will chime in.

Why do you say the 800 would be the way to go?

Also what size motor do you run?

I say the 800 as that's what I've seen the most going into people's 8S.
It's not my suggestion, per se; it's just an observation.

I have a max4 combo in mine. I would have gone with the Castle if Castle made an equal-size combo.

Hopefully he means Hobbywing. I have a Hobbywing MAX 5 and a Surpass Rocket 5692 1090kv. She pulls wheels up easy and geared up for 50 on grass. No problems here.

The equivalent Hobbywing combo is linked below, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The 56118 motor doesn’t fit properly. It's too long.

If you want sensored capability for smooth throttle operation, then go with Castle.

If you want to save some money, then go with a Hobbywing Max5 ESC and the 780kv Hobbystar motor on sale right now (second link below).

Any 56mm diameter motor less than 115mm long should fit fine. And any kv rating between 700 and 1200 should work fine - you can correct with gearing.

I had bad luck with the Castle XLX2 on multiple big rigs. ESC randomly bricking, bullets de soldering etc. Castle warrantied two and I did the replacement program for the last one. You can search the forum and see most people recommend Hobbywing for bashing particularly when it comes to the big ESCs max 5 etc. I run castle on smaller stuff and they are great. Castle has a great warranty program and people in the US that answer the phone. With that being said the Max 5 g2 has been phenomenal on my outcast and XRT. You can also run 12s, it's nice to have options if you buy the HW adapter cables you can run castle motors sensored with HW escs. I have ran the 2028 800kv and it was a great motor, ran cool particularly on 12s. I tried the HW 5687 and felt it didn't have enough bottom end and ran hot once geared up since I like to gear my rigs for 65mph for air control. In the end I went with the hobby star 980kv 34/39 on my outcast and it has been a great motor. No cogging runs almost as smooth as a sensored setup with incredible torque but the top end of the higher kv motors. I power it with a Max5 g2, I run 3 of them and have had no issues.

Castle it is, bought the xlx2 today. Now just deliberating on 800 v 1100, im aware I can gear up or down to achieve the same effect. But still on the fence

I own them both and I really don’t think you’d be able to tell a difference. Get whichever version you can find cheaper.

I have both and I like the castle system better. It's more responsive. I run 41T pinion and 39spur. And good fans. When I went to the setup I had to purchase aluminum diff cups cuz the composite cups would crack right in half. Hope this helped.

Can you give me links to the cups ?
