16 tooth pinion

Check your gear mesh. May be too tight, you want just a hair of play between spur and pinion

This should be a sensored motor. They should never have any cogging.
Do you have the sensor wire connected? Are you running the ESC in a sensored setup? (Or the default hybrid SmartSense)?

Yes, there should be a sensor wire included that runs between the motor and esc.

Yes, depending on your ESC setup. Default mode is using the sensor connected.
You can change to a sensorless run mode in the ESC with Castlelink.

That's what I recommend. Sensored setup is sooooo smooth!
