54F ambient? Doesn't even get that cold here during the deepest winter! :ROFLMAO: Didn't even cross my mind tbh.
Still very odd that the motor gets colder as you accelerate (@178) or is that when you turn on the fans? Still wouldn't exlain the dips between 179-180 unless your fans were not working. Really no impact on your speed run, just strange to see.

I’m thinking the motor temp thing could be possible - 54° is about ambient outside where I am today, and I’ve got twin NTF fans running on it. So it could start at ambient and as soon as I turn the fans on it goes down a couple degrees?
yes I’m running sensored, Castle 1717
And thanks for the comments too! You guys are the reason I’m improving. These data logs are awesome!!!
Can you take an external motor temp next pass and compare to the logs? A few of us have cooked our 1717s with moderate temp limits set in the ESC.

Yes. I take external after every pass. Was seeing mid to high 90°s but nothing over 100° on the motor. ESC was around mid 120°s.

I’m up north bro, this is warm for us this time of the year! ??
I turn the fans on manually before I start the run, then leave them on after too cool the motor off. They’re pretty dope fans from NTF, runs on 3s.

Anyone’s thoughts on no rear and front wings helping or hurting? Does the rear wing add lateral stability keeping the car straight at high speed or just downforce or what?

I would think the vertical wings would be helpful. As far as a rear horizontal wing, that would depend on how the car feels under breaking. Does it feel like the rear gets loose? That’s when the rear downforce will be critical IMO.

Seems pretty stable for the most part when braking. But as it get faster it’s a whole new level of complexity with aerodynamics and downforce etc. gets harder to hold it together at 120+ for more than a second or two. ?
also looking at balancing wheels...any tips?

I simply use a spare rear hub, axle, and hex from a Kraton in a vise and spin the tires by hand a little. I now use lead tape to balance them out thanks to @olds97_lss from Amazon.

The wing side posts are very useful. You could imagine this car up side down used as a boat that would be the rudder steering it. Those do help keep the car tracking straight and as mentioned the wing seems to be most needed under braking, but also provides some extra grip.

The front wing is less necessary as many have ran without it into the 150's

I am honestly a bit shocked you have gone this far without tire balancing. It is hard to find good 1/8 scale balancers, but I would get one if you can. Many GRPs are way out of balance. As you go beyond 130's the vibrations and harmonics in the car will be a factor that slows you down.

ya i'm seeing as soon as i put the GRPs on its harder to keep it straight. also because they are stickier than the Hoons as soon as it tracks sideways a bit its much more prone to catching the sidewall and flipping whereas the Hoons would just slide off into the grass if it got away from me..
like i said - whole new level of complexity but thats what makes it more fun! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I'm late here but i prefer to run just alittle rear wing myself.. i feel the car is more stable, but i also run foams.
any brand of foams in particular?

Not trying to speak for Phil, but generally most have found BSR Purples are the way to go.
Is the new owner of John’s keeping the same product quality coming? I heard whispers of issues after the transition. Might be unfounded.

link? not sure which ones on the website exactly..these?

foams are all new to me...do i have to mount them to the wheel myself or what - any tips?

these aren't hex either..
You were pulling up the pan car style which are much smaller. One thing to note is that Foams offer significantly less traction, but blow outs tend to be less violent, and rarely cause crashes like they do on rubber tires. Many people are running rubber tires up to 150mph so you may want to stick with them for a while longer. One trick is to sand down the sides and re-do the glue around the rim with BSI IC 2000.

There are a few shops that offer foams. The big 3 are Sweep, Contact, and John's BSR.
BSR is hard to find at times, it seems like eBay is often a good place to look.

"1/8 BSR Purple" is the key words I search with.

any thoughts on increasing motor timing to highest setting? running Castle 1717 on stock timing currently.

If motor temps are cool then go for it. Y-wind motors like timing more than D-wind.
That should generate some extra RPMs.

As far as I am aware all castle motors are wound Wye

Not sure on that one...
Also don't forget one other brand, the ones Raz has been using recently "Gone Banana's" foams..????
