Can I sneak in the thread with a silly question? I just got my Typhon 3s the other day and went to take it apart a bit while it was new (I outta see how it's all put together BEFORE things break) and I couldn't get the wheel nut off. Admittedly I didn't try very hard in fear of snapping something before even running it.
Is it really on there that tight? What do you hold onto when removing the wheel nut? Just the whole wheel itself?

Man I went through the same - squashing the tyre down with other hand seemed the best for me that stopped the tyre hex getting stripped ... tried messing about locking the drive shafts with tools but didn't get it to work.

Also, those cheap 17mm tools have been a revolation... better than the supplied 4 way

Yeah, the factory provided metal tube and bar are awful. I got the above mentioned one and it’s a bit short for proline wheels. Works but is way tight. I just picked up this one to try…it’s supposed to be longer.

Thank you for that. I ended up getting them off. Glad I wasn't the only one!

Digging up an older thread....

I've been searching for a 17mm nut driver with a standard handle. I currently have a T handle nut driver for the wheel nuts, but I hate it. While watching some Kevin Talbot YouTube, I noticed he had exactly what I was looking for in this video.

Does anyone have any idea where this 17mm nut driver might exist, or anything like it?

Interesting, I don't really see any other 17mm nut driver from my google search.

Thanks for the find, I never bothered to look at Wiha, because my toolbox is full of Wera. I just prefer their handles more.

I'm really looking for one that doesn't have a long shaft on it though just like in KT's video.

I have considered doing this as well.

Arrma 6s rigs were including the 4 way wrench. Best for the stocker and most standard non-adapter Type PL wheels.
@Velodromed, did your Typhon come with a 4 way 17mm wrench?
I use the Tekno Variant. It has 2 uses. The other use is for removing the Grub screw out of the Hex adapter without needing the wheel mounted onto it.
Just wish it had a longer 17mm shank for deeper offset wheels. I use a 17mm socket much of the time anyway. But an alloy specific wrench will not beat up the wheel nut as easily. Just me.

BTW, The Arrma 4-way wrench, is actually a Nitro rig 4 way wrench. If you look closely at it, it has 4 locations to store 4 Nitro Glow plugs. And the long 8mm end's purpose is for the Glow plug removal. Has anyone else noticed this???
How Arrma ended up with a Nitro 4 way wrench is beyond me. Been including this wrench for years past. :LOL:They have always been an Electric brand.
I am sure it is just an outsourced universal cheapo tool anyway. Have so many of these lying around..
Funny I was just looking at the stock wrench today wondering what the threaded corners were for. 👍😁👍

Tried the stock wrench on my kraton and almost broke my hand..lol..it sucks...use a socket wrench instead and will buy another since lowes has a sale going on right now...

Funny, I saw that video some time ago and really liked that wrench KT used.

It was sold by Duratrex many years ago https://www.competitionx.com/news-feed/duratrax-17mm-wheel-nut-driver/

I haven't been able to find a Duratrex or unbranded one in stock anywhere though, seems no one is manufacturing that thing any more.

When I got my early released V1 Limitless. It was a total QC mess. And for the life of me I could not get 3 of the 4 wheels off, among many other isses, Poorly stamped chassis etc. On and on. Axels didn't even spin. That tight.
They obviously used way too much torque on the 17mm wheel nuts. So tight that the wheels hexes were crushed and bottomed out. Wheels were even distorted and wobbly. I called HH, and they offered to replace all the hubs. BB's wheels stub axels, and all related parts.
I still needed to remove them however. I used my 1/2" drive impact gun. it worked , but I hurt my hand and wrist doing it.
The factory had to do this on purpose. This is NOT by accident. Some disgruntled worker no doubt. Had to be.

I use my impact driver on my 1/5 wheel nuts for both loosening and tightening, but not to the point of deforming the plastic wheel in any way.

Awesome, thanks for the find!

Part # DTXR1177

I was able to locate a couple of these through the magic of eBay and just purchased one!

Sweet, hope it serves you well (y)

They do seem to pop up on eBay from time to time (at least one is listed right now), but I am from Germany, so shipping and taxes usually don’t make it worth it.

I use my small M12 Milwaukee Power driver with a 6 point 17mm socket much of the time. Speeds things up.
But.... I just use a twist by hand of the M12 for the nuts final torque after the nut has bottommed out. I keep the clutch setting low.
