@parcou Thanks a lot for the pictures! It all makes sense. This is exactly what I did. I edited some of my previous comments, as they did not make sense 😆Apparently I was just tired and overthinking it 🤪

The only difference is that instead of 8x10 I used 8x12 shims. These were several dollars at AliExpress for 100 pieces :D With those I can shim all RC cars within 200km radius, I guess.

I did remove one shim on each side on the rear to have a slight movement. So that it is 3x0.2mm shims per side on the rear axle.

The MAIN thing to avoid, as I understand, is a shim that is so big, that it touches both inner and outer bearing ring. Both 8x10 and 8x12 will work just fine.

Good work on the shimming...all a learning process as I still learn more each day on this great site.

I try to on all my rigs to smart shim all over where it makes sense to get rid of some slop just not to compromise the action of the area.

The most important areas I get surgical would be the diffs, diff internals if needed, and the input gear to the diffs crown/ring gear to get as best of gear mesh as I can. I have to remember that in some rigs, the plastic can flex, so in some cases, I need to go with aluminum. I determine that based on how I bash and read the issues others may experience with specific rigs.

These shims are great, just got done shimming all my wheel hexes! 3 took a .3 and a .1 shim and one in the rear needed a .3 and a .2, all just move a slight tick now.
I am grateful for the vet here who shared that. I do it to all my rigs. The shims are perfect with no blockage and different sizes to get it just right.

My only issue is when I clean the rig and take the hex off. I forget they are there since they will be dirty and still packed onto the hex. Remember, months down the road, breaking it dow,n they are there
