It's a good reference level pertaining to light/low viscosity fluid, absolutely. Heavy 500K+ CST I usually pack in and swipe with my finger near the upper cross pin so it doesn't contaminate thread sealant or squish out when capping the sun gear/etc.
This was how I learned to not overfill, the first time I rebuilt the metal center diff of the FT. Not only did it squish out and likely get in the threads, it moved the gears inside enough that it was bound when tightened.
Just enough to cover most of the planetary gears. Don't want the sungear push oil all over. Anything involving silicone tends to grow and get everywhere when your sloppy with it.
As long as it's not white silicone sealant. Hate working with that suff gets everywhere

Allways prefer a little on the chunky side because after a few speed passes it becomes very smooth . Also here is another great king Blitz tip
To keep your diffs from high temp .you can reduce its fever by adding some Tylenol
The best is all natural honey!! To be exact from Eastside of Harlem and sold over on 14st. No other honey in the country is as good. Bring some bread and when you get hungry toast the bread on the brushless hot motor and spread. Full belly and your seasonal allergy problem solved.
Open a diff and have at it!
Enjoy!!
You wouldn’t fill a differential 100% in a passenger automobile or the expanding fluid as it heats up will break the oil seals and leak, so it makes sense for RC too.

If you think you got too much, put the end cap on with the sun gear. Pull it back up & wipe off excess it pulls up. I put a little behind the sun in the two cavities to help hold it on & lubricate it & keep it from pulling back up. Put it back down. I fill to 2-3mm to below the diff case edge. Wait 30mins, pop the bubbles with a toothpick during that time. 3mm below the case edge is right above the cross pins, maybe a tad more. Nothing wrong with taking some out. But it needs enough.
