Welcome to the latest edition of “I shouldn’t have bought this”
About a year ago I decided I didn’t really like having an on road car, so I figured I would make my stretched typhon into a dual motor rig to try and get me into it a little more. At the same time a lot of street Mojave set ups were popping up, so I figured if one on road car was boring, maybe two would be awesome? Plus I had the stock chassis left over from my Fireteam and a bunch of spares so on road Mojave it is. Still needed some parts so I grabbed what I thought was a good deal (it wasn’t): an Infraction slider from eBay. The price didn’t seem too terrible, and it looked good in the pictures (Note: I do all my internet on my iPhone, so tiny pictures) Anyways, it showed up, looks like it’s a v1, has definitely been “enjoyed” but oh well. It’s mine now and as long as the diffs are fine I won’t complain.
My original plan was to just use the diffs and suspension on my Fireteam chassis. So I started throwing parts together and got most of a roller together. I switched out the hubs for Kraton hubs to add some width, and have it on the 53/107 Hoons. Love the look, excited about it and then as one does, I got busy and didn’t get to finish it.
Then I sold my stretched Typhon that was originally going to get the dual motor set up, and just kind of forgot about this one for a few months . Recently @StephenSchandelmayer shared his Mojave gt build and it reignited some excitement in me to get this one done. So after a lot of thinking and contemplating buying a carbon fiber chassis, I switched everything back to the original V1 Infraction chassis and stuck on the dual motor mount.
I think the body actually fits a little better wheelbase wise on the Infraction chassis. I originally wanted to stick with the Fireteam/Mojave chassis and just make side skirts to mount the batteries on, but I really wanted to run the rear splitter without having to reinvent the wheel. And if I ever get more serious with it, I’d like to switch to a Perfect Pass carbon fiber chassis.
I’m going to lay it out pretty similar to how Raz did his dual stock motor/esc Limitless. I need to either buy or make some side skirts. I’d really like to get the body mounted up next and then go to the side skirts. With the Kraton hubs the 53/107 Hoons fill out the front fender wells pretty well. I may add some spacers in the rear to get them out a little further, but I really need to mount the body before I worry too much about it.
Like most of my projects, I’m sure it will be long and drawn out, but I wanted to share. And shout out to @StephenSchandelmayer for the inspiration to get back on this project.
