Arrma RC's
  1. Typhon 6s
If I swapped the connector bodies or removed the extra clear plastic part this thing would actually fit in the spot Arrma provides for it. Is this a spectacularly bad idea?

Pictures removed for security reasons

The first connector you pictured will not work as a balance connecter, personally, I don't use the balance port strap because if the battery flies out of the car the balance cable might rip off.

I strap the balance cable in the velcro straps.

I started doing this as well since the pins got ripped out of my balance lead and wouldn't stay in anymore.

Me too!

After a wreck, when I went to plug the battery in to storage charge it, the wires were pulled out just enough (that I did not notice) that when I touched it, they sparked and caught fire. 😲

So yea, they get secured in the velcro straps now. 👍

Took me ruining one lipo before I started strapping those connectors into the straps. IIRC it was the one and only time I went to the race track too :ROFLMAO:

Strapped them in from day one. No loose cables flying around. Really nice defined finger prints btw.
Good point, maybe I'll ditch that pic.
I just strapped the balance lead in like you all said you do because it was the only thing that made sense.

Well I was too late to see the pictures, unfortunately. But a friend just got a used Typhon 6S, and a little plastic holder with rubbery strap, which we were scratching our heads, trying to figure out what it's for. Am I correctly understanding that it's for the balance lead?

I just got my truck (TRX Sledge), and have been using the balance lead, with an extension, to go to a LiPo alarm. As a way to pull over and quickly check voltages, and to also have the alarm to help let me know if the battery is getting too low. I never would have thought the balance lead could be damaged from flopping around in a crash, wow, that's crazy. Hopefully my balance extension would just pop off if the battery flew out in a crash.

I guess I should also maybe look at better securing my ESC leads, perhaps. Thanks for the discussion!

The balance lead can also be damaged by that holder as we already mentioned. The strap breaks and your batteries come out it will rip the leads off the battery.

For the record, I was just kidding about the finger prints, but I see your point about security, I could almost see your DNA! J/K. :)

My Sledge will slow down and then stop as the battery is depleted. If you get the Traxxas link module you can check voltage remotely.

The Sledge comes with the telemetry built in?

From what I've read, the Sledge ESC has some telemetry features already. Including pack voltage. And with the $35 Bluetooth link on the transmitter, you can view that stuff using their app on your phone. You can also add more sensors, for temperature, GPS, etc.

The first time I took my Sledge out, I think I failed to notice the first stage of LVC (when it cuts power to 50%), and I ran my battery way too-low. So now I'm slightly paranoid about it :)

I'm tempted to get the Bluetooth link, since programming the transmitter is incredibly clumsy. But I don't love the idea of constantly needing my phone to monitor the telemetry info. Does the app let you set an alarm for thresholds? Like so my phone could make a noise in my pocket, if the pack voltage got too low? I've had trouble finding much info on the telemetry features.

I go back and forth on whether I should just get a different controller with a screen, and telemetry, and replace the receiver. There are some options around $80, but they may not really provide telemetry.

As far as I know it doesn't have that feature.

You can run the Sledge without having to monitor it. It makes setting things up way easier though. I have my ESC configured to slow down and then stop at LVC. This can be disabled. It monitors speed, motor RPM, and battery voltage, allows changing settings, it's convenient. The remote does feel weird with the weight of a large phone hanging off the top.

Nice setup but not for everyone. That phone would be in the way of my left wrist while driving.
