Arrma RC's
  1. Typhon 6s
Hey all..got a quick question. I’m new to the LiPo thing and also how these brushless motors run. Last time I was in RCing was early 2000s. I got my Typhon 6s v5 and was wondering if a heat sink and fan (single or double) combo is needed to extend the life of the stock motor. I run 4s now but haven’t had the chance to run it really. Probably will also get it going with 6s in the future after I hone my skills. I saw this fan/sink combo. Suppose to fit the stock motor [40mm) and came from the Felony with a 2050 motor and the seller is asking 32.00 and change. is it worth the cost and need or is there better and or forget it?

That would be a definite yes. There are aftermarket fans that blow a lot more air, but at that price point the options are mediocre in comparison. Hardcore fan setups cost quite a bit, so that's good bang for the buck. I like to drive aggressively and run in grass, which generates a lot of heat even with smaller pinions. Heat will demagnetize the permanent magnets in the motor. I'm a bit peeved with Arrma for not including a heat sink and fan on every model.

Well heck, just went to eBay to purchase it and it’s now gone. Argh! Okay any suggestions on some that will fit the stock motor on the Typhon?

my factory fans work but I added a additional one to bring in cool air on a senton. but the funny thing is I never see any heat sink compound ???
needless to say that all my heat sinks have compound on them. without it its like water cooling a air cooled engine but only filling the cooling system half way.

So, any suggestions on a sink/fan combo? I checked Arrma but they’re setup is out of stock or back ordered

I cant help you there. but keeping the fan blade hub supported will extend the fan life. I am using a cheap 50mm off amazon to cool under a senton body. in this case I got the lightest one I could find
check Jennys rc for stock parts...

Not sure if that will fit under the typhon body. The heat sink rises it up a bit. Maybe someone can confirm. I run my typhon pretty hard with no fan on 6s. It’s original blx system, v3, 17t pinion, on a 5000mah 6s lipo, trugified with heavier than stock tires. Just keep an eye on the motor can temp with an infrared thermometer and try not to let it get above 170-180f. Heavy upgrades, huge batteries, big tires and tall grass will stress the electrics and cause the requirement for cooling or smaller gearing. Keep the weight down and the speed goes up with no fan needed.

Almost a neighbor!

A lot of proplruse dual fans, Powerhobby or Yeah racing mount.

The fans will break easy though. Below are some references, look for the best deal before you commit.

I would recommend the clamp style going forward and get an aluminum fan from the get go. Make sure you know the fan and mounting dimensions, there are 30, 35 and 40mm styles.

Yes, I don’t think the factory arrma heat sink and fan fit under the body. Just the heat sink will. I used the factory arrma fan and hs on my Kraton and ended up getting the power hobby dual fans and hs for the Typhon.

Hello Almost Neighbor…I found a PowerHobby one real cheap so I bought that one at a local shop. Any good tracks that are open for just putz around runs?

Hi. sorry haven't been on the computer. I found a track above Melbourne. near US1 and SR528 its called beachside raceway.
they have a sweet indoor track and are finishing up a oval track outside. I met some guys that drag but they don't have organized events yet. they have a hobby shop thats loaded with car stuff. lots of kits and parts and rtrs if you want. you can also rent cars.

For tracks, there is Lake Park, been there and not for 1/8 scale, just smaller.

There is another racing complex in Port Richey but haven't been there myself.
https://www.facebook.com/EPICRCRACINGCOMPLEX/

Otherwise, it's just open fields or Parks that actually allow it on open areas. The occasional construction site but most are 'No trespassing'.
