So I’ll get the electronics out of the way first.
Radio: Spektrum DX5c with 6100A receiver.
Brain and Muscle: Castle Mamba Monster X 8s and the 1717, 1650kv motor combo
Servo: I used a savox waterproof. 1210 model

Now that is out of the way we can talk about what else I have done. I opened, shimmed and filled oil in all three diffs. I added one shim on outside of front, center was good, and rear took switching out the big, thinner shims with the smaller thicker shim to get right. I stayed close to stock with 20k oil in front, added 200k to center to stiffen a bit and left rear at 10k.

I have added several M2C goodies. Rear and front shock tower braces, 4mm shock out screws, aluminum pillar ball retaining nuts, front and rear skid plates, and a couple others.

Gearing. Currently I have left the 12t pinion so as to keep the truck slower and get practice before using the power I have put in.
I am also only running 4s to give myself training time.

Ill share more as I go.

Nice and welcome!

You could always go with a higher pinion and turn down the forward throttle travel on your DX5C to achieve the same effect and then bump it up when you feel you’re ready.

Here are some photos of the car so far. The tires are belted slicks I use on the driveway loop.

I am running SMC and Spektrum batteries. I can’t tell a difference and the SMC are considerably cheaper and have a tough hard case version as well as high discharge racing version.
This is my favorite value: http://www.smc-racing.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=67_171

What’s a driveway loop? Help me understand slicks on a Monster truck ?
I ask this with sincere curiosity.

This is my brothers driveway circle/ loop. It is about 1/10 of a mile. We use the slicks to run the pavement to save our off-road tires. Also, the slicks allow us to ”drift” the sharp turns and take them at more speed. My brother and I started this together and we are building him an almost identical truck So we can race and bash together.

HAHA--really that will not see to much mud with those slicks! It does look good---How do you like your 1717
We love the CC1717 1650kv so far. It is technically more motor than the truck needs but that is a good thing. We haven’t pushed it at all with the 12t pinion but so far heat isn’t even a concern and we haven't put a motor fan on yet. ill post update regarding motor once we change pinion and run 6s on it.

@Draknar4, that is in my opinion the most perfect EXB build I have seen so far. Good selection of gear. Diff oils etc.
This should be an example for many others unsure of setting up a K-EXB.

Running with 4s is very smart. Great for the drivetrain breakin as well learning its driving capabilities.
