Well I was visiting San Antonio and visited a hobby store while I was there to buy my nephew a RC plane for him to learn with. I've done RC for years but it's always been aircraft (drone/heli/plane), I have never done cars before other than cheapo ones when I was a kid. But I saw one there that looked really cool and after doing some research I decided to get it. I ended up buying the new Kraton EXB V2 (or V3, can't tell which is which). It worked out well with a 6s car considering I have a ton of (30+) 6s 5k packs I use for helicopters in 12s configuration.

I have a lot of experience working on rc planes, helis, and drones. But I have pretty much no experience with cars so it's all new to me. The power this car has is almost scary. I do have a few questions though.

1. Is there any way to tighten up the steering on it without spending money on upgrades? I try to adjust the trim to get it going straight, but there is some play in it so it always drifts one direction or another. It's enough that if I back up at any decent speed the wheels wobble back and forth while reversing. I don't know if this is normal for rc cars or if something just might be a little loose.

2. How long does a 6s 5k battery usually last in the Kraton? Weather wasn't great so I just drove mine on the pavement for about 5 min and battery was down to about 50%. Does the standard ESC have any audible warning or something when battery gets low or will it just cut out on me?

3. I got the newest EXB because after researching it seems to be worth the extra money for the included upgrades. But are there any upgrades that are really worth getting out of the box, or is it pretty much great out of the box?

Thanks for any information.

If your running 6s/12s helis, I'm gonna assume they are real good lipos. A kraton should run 15-25min depending on how you drive. Some lipos drop real quick to 3.8v/cell and hang out there for a long time. No warning on the esc, but it will stop running or slow waaay down when it gets too low. The cut off can be adjusted with a programing card.
Steering shouldn't be too wobbley from the factory. A tiny but, yes, but not much. Might have something loose? See if you can narrow down where the slop is.
No real upgrades needed out of the box, but there's some things worth checking or upgrading shown the line.
After a few runs, filling the front, center, rear diff with fluid since from factory they are often under filled. While it's out, do a proper shim job on the ring/pinion gear mesh. Make sure to re-lube the ring/pinion gear before reassemble. The stock servo is -ok- but not great. 100$ will get you something stronger, faster and more reliable. 30 will get you something stronger and reliable. Being a big heli guy, ima guess you don't do things half-donkey though.
Check the droop screws - if they arnt set properly, you'll start breaking diff cups. Youtube will be your friend for where they are.
Stock radio is fine, but basic. Plenty of threads on decent radios in all price ranges, or throw in your air radio and be a little different.

Welcome! Pull up a stool, you'll be here awhile.

Now that's how to enter the hobby with a bang. I opted for the much smaller Mojave Grom BLX, but it's a blast. I've been eyeing the Kraton 6s EXB some kinda hard though. Amazing trucks. If you're well versed in RC planes I don't think you'll have too hard of time catching on in the surface world. I was totally green to the hobby, and through a fair amount of research and tons of help on this platform I feel like I've got my feet firmly planted underneath of me. With that being said, welcome to family and enjoy!

Welcome.
The Kraton is a nice car. Not exactly novice level, but your experience in air rc may be an advantage.
About the wheel wobble: If you hold the hub and feel play on the axle, try putting shims behind the hex adapters
Also, the Kraton has wide hubs to fit wide truggy wheels, they cause a bit more reactions in the steering than the narrow ones on other cars.

Great advice. I needed to shim my axles too.
Here is the thread that has the shims with a link for them. (if needed)
