I lowered it a whole bunch so it should be fine.

The engine mounts are made of diecast/zinc. Welding won't work.
Maybe you could locate someone to mill you some new ones from aluminum.

What’s your idle gap set at? I had the same issue when I tried to start the engine I just rebuilt, idle gap was too “lean”.

I had to open it quite a bit at first, then was able to lean it back out after a few tanks.
 
Heat the engine to operating temp before trying to start it (~200*F). It will start much easier. Also, it looks like the LSN is set too rich, generally these needles need to be flush with the needle housing. And start with the HSN at 4 turns out.
