Just pick up a new xlx2 & 1721 all the talk about gearing has me confused. How small of a pinion and how big of a spur to start . I have 18 21 23 30T all mod 1.5

Why Modulus 1.5?
Modulus 1 would be fine with your application. Speed runs. Drags. ( Lim/Infr.)
You never stated which rig and volts.

Going to assume you are going for peak speed.
You will be much better off with mod 1 gears. Look at this site for gears https://www.sagacustomrc.com/store/p87/8mmboremod1pinion.html

Ideally this motor needs to build up high rpms. Most motors like to operate around 40k but this one likes to rev up to 60k (on 8s loaded with a 140+mph run)
This means you want to gear moderately (larger spur)

Few questions to help determine gearing advice for you:
  • What voltage do you plan to run?
  • What tires?
  • How fast have you been?/ experience level
  • What radio do you have for range concerns?

I’m going to start 6s maybe 8s I have been using grp . Been doing speed run about year 1/2 speeds very pb 115 then crash destroyed limitless took a break . I have been testing a Mojave pb 103 the 1721 is going in Typhon thank you for information no the gears

Got it, with the Typhons 3.3 diffs (Assuming you didn't swap them)
And if you stick with GRP tires

Something like a 40t spur and 26t pinion might be a good starting point on 6s. (saga custom rc is the best mod 1 gears)
I think it would be wise to play around in the 110-125mph range on 6s for a while till you get the car running consistently straight, and then work on higher speeds.

Good looking rigs, feel free to ask any other questions as you work on it.
