Welp, a few months ago I came across a v1 K8s roller deal that I couldn't pass up. It was brand new, minus the motor, ESC and radio. I had just enough cash to pick it up, and so I did!

Congratulations! It's an Orange!

And then it sat. For almost 5 months.

Turns out the motor combo I wanted carried both a hefty price tag AND limited availability. When I had the money, I couldn't find one for sale. And when they came back in stock... I never had the money. And then... it happened! I finally got my Castle Creations 2028/MMX8S combo.

And it's been about 2-3 weeks until I had the time. Yesterday I decided I'd finally get it on the road, and install the small pile of parts I had accumulated.

In there is the V1.5 chassis brace kit, a PPS k8s motor mount adapter plate for the 2028 (I happened to have a blemished one laying around I was saving for myself!) And I figured I'd plug up the diff.

Then I needed a radio. I desperately wanted a Futaba 7pxr. So I got a T4pm. Haha. Same thing. If you squint

I finally got it together to a point where I could plug it in. That's when I found out the motor was reversed. Boo. I had a castle link I had just seen 2-3 weeks ago. I put it in a safe spot because I knew I'd need it soon.

And I forgot where that place was.

I spent all day looking for it. I remembered where I found it in the first place, but not where I put it.

Turns out, I had tucked it in the motor box, and put the box away. Seems so obvious now... but I wouldn't even type this up if it wasn't quite an ordeal haha.

After I FINALLY got everything setup, radio channels switched, batteries fully charged, and everything buttoned up... it was finally time!

I got it on the ground and took its graduation photos. It'll never be this clean again.

I've been working non stop for months. While wrenching yesterday I found myself relaxing and enjoying working on my own rig. I haven't been able to do that for a long time. And then today, while choking on a cloud of dust and being pelted by rocks... I remembered why I truly love RC.

And I didn't break anything!

I've got a really gnarly idea for this thing... just finding the time to tinker..
But I'll keep this updated as things progress.

Just a little ripping around with the camera on board. Seen a top speed of 53mph with the 41t pinion, and it probably had a couple more MPH in it if I gave it some more room.

I also have realized I need to turn my brakes down a bit. Flipping while braking has played hell on my gopro haha.

So, I was about to run some packs 3 weeks ago, went to flip the switch on the ESC and the tape fell off. This sent me a bit askew.

I always prefer mechanical attachments when possible (screws) and decided I needed a switch mount.

3 weeks later, I finally got it back together! I installed a much needed servo with the optonal arrma servo mount. I was going to make a servo mount, but after spending 3 weeks on a switch mount I decided to just buy one so I can play!

Now we need a way to hold the MMX8s down. ?
Mine came loose from its mounting tape last bash, and was dangling by the wires... ☹️

Really like the cinematography.
I'm playing around with combo drone and land GoPro shots that will be sliced together. I would have loved to see the doc backflip cut to the other camera view as one seamless shot. These are the things I'm going to try and achieve. Now that I have this new hobby I have a subject to capture and tell a story with. Super fun playing in post-production.

Thanks!

Your project sounds like it will be fun to watch!

The main thing I wanted to show was the backflip. I had initially cut the backflip a little more seamless but then it just seemed too fast and glazed over. So I added in the stop, and the line up with the intent to make the viewer realize something was about to happen. The slow mo replay was just in fun. I couldn't help myself haha.

I didn't quite get the framing I was looking for on other shots. I do wish I had a bit more vertical frame on the landing shot, so you could see it was coming in from a backflip. My Gopro is busted pretty good. The screen is broken, the mount on the bottom is ripped off... and I didn't realize that the right side of the video it recorded was blurry until after the shoot haha.

I tried my best for continuity without really stressing over it. I just wanted to have a little bit of fun and dip my toes back in editing. Overall I'm kind of motivated to get back recording when I get a new camera. I'd love to be able to record multiple angles at the same time.

Got a couple packages I'm excited about finding the time to play with!
I picked up a set of proline badlands (always loved them!) A fresh body, and some fluids to tinker with.

One thing I've noticed is that the truck tends to unload the diffs vs drift, especially on loose stuff so I'm going to be working on getting that tuned out. I did get a sway bar set on order, but that's not going to be here until next week.
