  2. Granite
Just got my first Arrma the Granite Mega v3. I will update this tread as I upgrade or convert it. But being new to arrma I wish I would have started with one instead of a traxxas but both are still fun. I do plan on upgrading to 4s brushless eventually. If anyone has any upgrade recommendations please let me know.

There are some great brushless systems on Banggood. The ONLY thing I would be even remotely worried about is the amp rating on esc’s. Always buy one spec above what you plan to run.

I bought this^^

Along with this^^

Disregard the esc included in the first link. The second 80a esc sold separately runs flawlessly on 3s, although I don’t have much trust in it to run 4 cells. The motor in the first link has been perfect on 3s as well.

^^ I do not own this esc, but Kevin Talbot, a well known YouTuber, has reviewed the truck with this speed controller. It can 100% handle 4s.

^^ This motor also goes with the same car from above. Overpowered for sure. If you’re crazy, throw these two in the granite with a 4 cell Lipo. Watch your spur gear and rear diff. Also wouldn’t be surprised if the slipper breaks.

CONCLUSION— I would recommend the 3s upgrade with the very first two links from the top. Much cheaper. I can attach videos of mine with this upgrade, if you think it would be too slow. It is PLENTY of speed. Wheelies all day. At LEAST 45 mph with exceptional acceleration. The 80a esc is pre-programmed with low to medium punch, so you can peg the throttle and it will speed up somewhat gradually.

ALSO— Be ready to replace the entire rear diff, or at least the input shaft. I snapped mine second run on 3s. New rear diff and input shaft, and jb- welded slipper clutch. No point in running a slipper when the motor spins the tires or wheelies no matter what. Also as mentioned before, the punch setting is pre-set to be low to medium, so little to no strain will be put on the motor.

ONE MORE THING— The only negatives I have about this setup are the lead wires on the motor. Pretty stiff, but easy to work around. Again, I can attach pictures and videos if needed.

Good luck! Have fun! I know I did! :)

Look at me. Back with more sub-par untrustworthy advice. But seriously, take everything I say with a grain of disintegrated spur gear dust, I’m not an expert.?

If you are 100% dead set on getting a 4s kit off the bat, I could assume this is a good purchase. I looked at a couple reviews, and they seem helpful and specific, along with praising the product. Again, make sure the drivetrain can handle this kind of brushless power. There’s no telling what this tenth scale truck can handle at the top end. I’ve never seen someone run 4-6 cells on a granite ? if it does happen, I’m excited to see it run! Good luck again!!

I would go ahead and get one of the 0.8mod (32p) spur gear assemblies from a 3s or better yet 4s model (has a steel spur instead of plastic). You can pick one up from Jennys RC or a kit breaker from eBay. Just go ahead and get a 120a esc that's 4s capable and no smaller than a 3660 size motor. Cheap escs can work but reliability is hit and miss.
