Evening chaps!

need a bit of help/advice please, my 2 boys, have Tamiya mad bulls at the minute, but they want to upgrade, they want the granite blx, they are 10 years old, would I be better off getting them 2s battery’s to start with, 3s looks very quick and i wouldn’t want them smashing them to pieces, thinking I could probably get them 2 x 2s battery’s for the same price as a 3s so they will get more run time. Is 2s quick enough, I don’t want to zap the fun.

i also need a LiPo charger, all new to me this, can anyone recommend one that charges multiple battery’s at the same time at a decent rate, without costing a fortune if possible.

would this battery fit, does it have the right connector on?

thanks

I would go with two 2s batterie.
The ZOP has Dean connector and the Granite BLX comes with EC5 connector. So, you will need a adapter.
I would suggest to buy already a 2s batterie with EC5 (blue) connector.
For the charger, I have Hitec X4 and works still A+ since 2018.

That lipo has the wrong plug. You want an EC5 or IC5 connector.

As far as 2S vs 3S, I would start with 2S and see how things go. You will break far less parts on 2S.

We have 2 of the Granites that we run with 2S LiPo and my boys still break plenty of parts (mostly shock rod ends and some linkages), so I agree that 2S is a smart way to begin. I swapped all my connectors to the XT90s, but not having to solder would be nice. As for a charger, I use the HTRC T240 which is really nice. The batteries that we run are ZEEE 2S 5200 mAH batteries, and they've held up nicely for me, IIRC they were about $30 for a 2 batter pack on the Amazon. That Hitec that pl9171 posted up looks nice. Mine only charges 2 at a time, but charging 4 at once would be so much more convenient.

I also would agree. 2s is the way to go. Plenty fast. Stay away from deans adaptors if you can help it. I’ve switched to direct connection with EC5s. 3s could be fun in a huge open area just to see what it could do but I have no problem launching 15 ft into the air off 2s in the backyard. The adapters were cool at first but became a weak point and started to cause power issues. They also unplug during rough crashes.
Here is my current set up.

I have EC5 charging leads that were purchased separate that have been working out so far. Which you can also find on amazon. For 2s I picked up lectron pro on eBay. 2c charge rate so the charge very fast at 10amps which that charger can do.

How good are they at driving the Mad Bulls? Go 3s and use the throttle limit and rate to keep the speed where they can handle it and when they're ready full 3s send it ?

Welcome here.

thanks, so I need the blue connector, that’s made it simple ?, that charger looks bob on, but A bit more than I’d like to pay really,

ha! Looking more and more like 2s, my boys will definitely break stuff then, watched a few vids on 2s, they look quick to me, 3s looks mad! I’ll take a look for that charger on amazon uk, ( should of mentioned I’m from the uk ) not sure if you can get the same stuff over here, likewise with the battery pack ?

15 ft in the air will more than impress them, there used to being told to be careful with there mad bulls, think this may be a game changer for them, will go for the right connectors on the batterys, sounds like a pain otherwise, I’ll link a charger up from uk amazon, to see what you guys think, when I’ve looked for something similar to what you have linked.

there alright to be honest, but sometimes they get a bit silly if there together with them, I did think of going 3s and using the throttle limit, but they know about that and said they would just turn it up ?, I’ve also told them they do 50 mph, but they will think 2s speed is 50 mph, then when they eventually get 3s they will have a good buzz all over again.

so pretty much set on 2s now, thanks everyone for your input, many more questions to come........

Turn it up = I take it away ?

Been having a look for 2s battery’s with ic5/ec5 connectors, start at £53 each, and very few options for sale, seems mad, when the zop one is £18, so can I go with the one below

https://www.banggood.com/ZOP-Power-...-0819&p=W4130612246597201707&cur_warehouse=CN

and use an adapter, are these the right adapters? And is one type better than the other? Thanks

2s for the kids!

haha ?

Found these on eBay UK. This is what I use and where I ordered my 2s batteries with EC5s except it was the US site.

What you posted would work if you want to go that route. I didn’t have good luck with the adaptors after continued use.

cheers the link, stangely it says may not post to the uk, I’ll send him a message and check, if he does I’ll get them ordered ?

when you say you didn’t have good look, how do you mean, just poor connection?

No international postage.

I saw a few others of that same brand from different sellers that maybe deliver to your area? The dean or t connectors will come loose on bigger crashes. Mine over time also started to un solder themselves. Those exact ones from amazon.

Found these, but there still 40 quid each, I could get 2 of the zop ones for that, think I might risk it, see how they get on with them, and try and find a way if securing the connectors on, Unless something else crops up. Could always be back up if they prove a pain.

Yeah that SkyRC Charger can do 6A per channel which is good enough for 6000mah packs at 1C. ????

Great I'll get it ordered, presume I need the connectors too

Even if you don't like soldering, consider changing your battery plugs to EC5 yourself if EC5 lipos are more expensive. EC5 is really easy to solder. The metal connectors come separated from the plastic part and have little cups at the end. You can put the soldering tin in the cup, heat it up with a lighter and push in the cable. No soldering iron required.
