Knowledge and wisdom required....in abundance...!!!

Hi all...I have a granite that was once a mega, now brushless thanks to some lucky buys on e-bay...! Anyway, traction rolling was an issue so swopped out the standard arms for Typhon. First run out I snapped an arm that probably shouldn’t have passed QC as it looked wonky at the body mount 😡. On that first run, the front suspension just doesn’t spring back like the rears. It’s slow and doesn’t push down to normal resting position so front of the car is nose down.

Still very new to this hobby and know nothing about shocks. Was thinking of swop them out for alternative but the Typhon / Senton mix looked too pricey and can’t get hold of them. Too many complaints about proline, trackstar have been discontinued and as I’m hoping mine aren’t actually broken 🤞 what’s the point in changing them yet.

Hoping it’s just an oil change, any ideas from the educated...??

also, second problem. Wanted to swop the tyres for proline and trenchers and opted for the Typhon 17mm hex and axel change. Problem is that it the wheels rub on the hubs (front and rear) so still need an offset. Is there a way around this or am I best going back to 14mm hex and use the proline adapter in the packet to get the offset? Not fussed about the lost £££ on Typhon hex and axel as also have a Typhon BLX so can keep the bits back for spares.

appreciated any help...👍🏻

I have a set of Pro-line Trencher HP belted 2.8 tires and wheel with the Pro-line 17mm adapters on my Typhon 3s. I have no problems with the wheels rubbing on anything.

Strange....I had to fit the proline 10mm offset to get it to work. I was worried that as I had already swiped the granite arms out for the Typhon, adding an offset would cause me breakage issues but a good few packs in and everything is holding up just fine. @GRC chipped in on another feed so I took the plunge.

lovin the trenchers, stability is awesome 👊🏻

How are the belted tyres? Are they too heavy and causing breakages on the Typhon?

Ps: what shocks do you have on there...?

Hi

I cannot speak for those tires but I had no issue with the Badlands on my Granite this is before "Raid" tires which mine were a fixed 17mm with no adapter....maybe someone else will have a reply on those

Lack of suspension rebound - One issue I had when I put the longer Typhon arms on was binding. Mine were RPM arms but it was binding where I put the long axle pin in so the arm did not freely drop on its own weight. So this made my shock not spring back up correctly. After watching this video which was my issue, I had no issues with the springs coming back to position.

The belted tires are a bit heavy, but not too bad. I haven't had any heat issues from running my Typhon 3s at 75% throttle for 15-20 minutes at a time. The shocks are Pro-Line PowerStroke shocks, made specifically for the Arrma 3s/4s vehicles. They are not cheap, but the looks, quality, and performance are fantastic.

Cheers parcou...the arms drop to standard position when I lift the truck off the ground so not convinced it’s a binding issue of the hinge pin or anything around the hubs. Pretty convinced it’s the shocks but just don’t know what yet.

will run through the link checks you posted anyway as a backup and bit of maintenance 👍🏻

Yeah I read up on them and checked the price, maybe take the dive at some point but just found some Arrma shocks at a breaker for good money so got them. Will have to start reading up on shock maintenance so at least I can understand the basics 😬

Ahhhh....tooooo late....😡

no leaks so far but I’m less than a year into the hobby and running V3 Typhon, granite and big rock. With three trucks it’s all about the ££££££ but will slowly upgrade as things breakdown, just wish there was a more cost effective alternative for the shocks than spending half the price of a truck on them...!!!!!!!!

Here is a list of alternative options for shocks.

Arrma alloy shocks.

These are a direct bolt on just use your stock shock springs on them.

Rear - https://www.arrma-rc.com/part/ARA330678

Proline Racing shocks.

These are a direct bolt on but a bit expensive compared to a lot of the other options.

Arrma Typhon 6s shocks -

The best place to source these is from Jenny's Rc. Use the Axial bushings in the upper mount to take up the space.

rears 117mm eye to eye https://jennysrc.com/collections/no...pers-springs-ara8606v5?variant=32972252708918

HSP shocks -

A lot of people have used these shocks with great results. They are HSP Front 81003 and HSP Rear 81002 shocks. Use the affor mentioned Axial bushings in the shock caps. Remember that these are cheap Chinese shocks, they work okay but do not expect much for quality.
fronts are 110mm eye to eye.
rear are 130mm eye to eye.

Big Bore eBay shocks -

Cheap ebay shocks these also need the previously mentioned Axial shock bushings. These shocks do not have bladders and can be a bit tricky to bleed, some users have had issues with the stock pistons having too small of holes, the rod ends are pretty poor, the shafts bend and they tend to leak.
fronts are 102mm eye to eye.
rears are 114mm eye to eye.

Hot Bodies shocks -

Rather expensive and you will want to change out the springs. Also need the Axial bushings.

HPI Racing Big bore shocks.

Pretty much the same thing as the Hot Bodies shocks.(part numbers break down to be the same, except for the shock adjustment collars, they are different colors)

To install first you put the included insert in the ”giant hole”. Then you can insert the stock pivot ball after sanding down the ”ball” a little bit.

Cheers Slick...that’s some research...!!!

Best get the misses a new book to read so I can get some quiet time going through this list...😂😂

Don't buy more Arrma 3S shocks. Get some from the 6S line up.

The 3S shocks will just leak.
3S shocks leaking was a problem before the V3 lineup, but seems to have been fixed.
Here is a list of alternative options for shocks.
First time I’ve actually bookmarked a post. Thank you.

Nice....judging by the condition of the spoiler, you tore the back end of the shell first...?!?!

I’m just about to order my third, practicing backflips at the bmx track is raging hell on my shells 😡

does the spoiler help protect the shell when jumping or does it pose a new set of problems if you come down hard on the rear and don’t get time to correct the drop...?

Ive had to replace my Typhon mount after a monumental kart wheel on a speed run snapped it. Thinking of the heavier granite, can’t see it lasting too long or do you think it’s a worthwhile addition...?

I’ve upgraded my Granite and BR to 4s. Body got shredded first run🤷🏻‍♂️ The wing is a must if you are launching them. It’ll last a while and saves the body.

Hard to tell what shocks you have there, they don't look like stock. But it sounds like you just need to increase the preload on your springs.

Cheers GRC, I had a couple of large clips in both shocks above the springs.

Swopped the shocks out for a new set and all is fine.

As I put Typhon arms on the granite, I thought the shocks may have been different on say the Typhon and BRCC due to the longer arms but looking at the exploded diagram for the granite/ Typhon/ BRCC V3, 3S lines, they all have the same part numbers.

Guess I just abused them too much with all the jumping as there are no leaks on them and I haven’t dabbled with oils yet...🤔
