Chassis assembly

Yesterday I received my new EXB chassis, unfortunately the new battery tray and side guards I ordered together with the chassis are on backorder. I was planning to wait for all parts needed, but I could not hold back and started with the rebuild of the chassis.

Offcourse I de-anodized the servo mount and T2T brace. Started the rebuild of the chassis with the install of the motor mount, center diff, ESC plate and the servo mount. I 3D printed a endbell support for the motor, for now this is still a mock-up piece. I want to add a way to attach the support to the motor.

Then installed the complete rear- and frontclip and center drive line. I forgot to cut off the rib on the ESC tray before so I had to disassemble it put it back in again.

Just the T2T brace, center body support and front bumper remaining for now. I will install the radiobox, receiver and ESC when the new battery tray and side guards come in.

A new body to “finish” it off for now. It took me some time to fit it correctly, I did not notice I installed the rear body mounts upside down. Second pic below shows the body in the rear sitting high due to my error. After correcting this the body fits nicely.

I hope my last parts come in quickly and I can finalize the chassis and install all electronics and then go rip ….

As I wrote: better than new.
Good work (y)
I wish you a lot of fun with the Kraton.

Well finally I finished the K6 rebuild … unbelievable long wait for parts.

When I ordered the replacement chassis 20-03-2023 I also ordered new side guards and a new battery tray. My LHS did not have stock for those plastic parts at that time, so they had to order them from Horizon Europe. I got my parts in one at a time, the chassis immediately and the mudguards came a few days later end of march. The battery tray however kept being postponed and postponed …

Eventually I put the K6 in a box and set it aside because I could not finish the electronics installation/placement without the battery tray and receiver box installed. On April the 20th I finally received the battery tray. I tossed it in the K6 box because I was preoccupied with other things.

Yesterday evening I got everything out and finalized the electronics installation … the truck is now finally done. Pics to tell …

New parts, receiver box not in the picture but also a new part

I 3D printed a holder for the HW power switch.

Well done !! I would change out those motor mount screws. It will save some heartache.

Well my misfortune did not end there. I tried to take the motor out of the motormount, but again some serious glue is used. I used heat on the screws but could not break the glue bond, only 1 screw came loose. I used so much heat I could no longer hold the motor in my hand for longer time. Not a good thing for the motor.

I F’d up really bad and stripped out the hex on two screws trying to get them out, one on the mount and one on the motor. I have decided to give up on trying to get the motor out. Guess the motor mount will be the only red part on the truck then …

Already had the heartache ... the motormount screws and motor screws are glued in tight, they ain't going anywhere ...
