Is there a way for me have the handbrake (or engine brake) automatically engage if the car goes out of range and loses signal?

No, the failsafe on the DX5C only moves the throttle to the preset and doesn’t have any output on the other channels. Probably for the better because you want to be off throttle when you engage the handbrake or else you’ll diff out the center diff and it may heat up/melt the plastic case.

What he said. 👆👆👆 Also, make sure your drag brake is set, and not on zero. Then your car will slow to a stop automatically when out of range.

@dure16 What he said... I do not use the drag brake on any of my rigs but in your case, the best option you have is to set the ESC drag brake to stop it faster when out of range.
