Been a long time since I have messed with those. When I had that issue I used some shock pliers to hold the body and another set of pliers to turn the red nut....in my case both has rubber protection so did not harm the shock too much

Don’t want to go there Lol. I used plyers on both ends with a paper towel so they don’t mar. Mine were very tight, push the spring down to hold the shock body just don’t squeeze like a gorilla.

i had to swear at it and use pliers on the shock body
