Hey guys hope y’all enjoying your Black Friday deals!!!

Looking for something for the Fireteam
that will move the big thing and stay cool

I know from experience that the stock combo wont stay cool enough running the way I want it too

I know the Hobbywing 4985 1650kv, seems to be the most suggested
But geared where I want, It gets hot pretty quick

So looking to possibly try different option

I’ve heard good things about the Hobbystar 4985 1580kv
heard almost same power but it stays cooler than HW1650

Anyone have experience with both motors
Any recommendations for motors?

TIA

What pinion are you using with the 4985? Do you have a motor fan installed? Stock ESC fan? Is the motor or ESC getting too hot?

I Run a 21t on XL Kraton w fans and the motor gets hot pretty quick esc is ok
I bash in mostly hard / loose dirt
I have to break about every 8-10mins to let cool down
My Xl Typhon I ran w 20t on road with no fans but was only 60 degrees outside and
after 6 passes it was to hot to touch

I haven’t even used my temp gun
But gets hot quick!!!

I know fans and bigger fans are always a cooling option

But Id like to try maybe other motor options
was wondering about the Hobbystar
Or other suggestions

I’ve used both… they both seem to perform about the same…

Heat wise, the 1650 4985 seems to get hot on the fireteam… almost recommend the 1250kv motor from the k8s/O8S…

That will do the best for you… in my opinion.

You could try the 1200 kv version

Thank you sir
Was thinking I might have to do that
I have a couple Spektrum 1250s on hand

Was just hoping to use something a little lighter
Trying to keep the weight on the thing down!!! 🤯😂

I see the HS1250 is only 570 grams
Spektrum is 618g

Do you have any experience with the Hobbystar ?

Nope! all my 6s rigs use either TP or castle motors and the wifey has the lone hobbywing 1650kv in her stretched typhon. Oh and the felony has the lone leopard motor =D.

My fireteam has the castle 1717 1650kv combo which is similar to the hobbywing combo but I'm a firm believer that the castle combo runs cooler all around, both esc and motor. iirc I'm geared 22/50 or 21/50 I forgot but it's one or the other.

I'm actually trying to figure out what I'm going to put in the fireteam I just got in the sale as well. I have a spare castle 1717 but I'm not a fan of putting in the same motor into the same two rigs so I might just remove the handbrake an put in a TP 4070(107mm) 1700kv

Use case definitely matters. Do you jump a lot or is your FT going to stay grounded for the most part? If you don't jump as much, I'd consider a leopard 5882 1360kv or something similar. A bit heavier but that's the motor I have in my felony and it's awesome. Only problem is you would need a pps mount or similar to mount it.

Curious to see what you end up putting in yours!

I might have to research that Tp 1700
curious the weight and if it gets hot

I wont be sending the Fireteam
Just some decent natural jumps

Probably stay away from pps + leopard and the extra weight

What was your final decision and how were the results? Thx

If we called them equal power & price, Hobbystar 1250kv motor vs. the Firma 1250kv motor. Which would you pick? Does one have an advantage in quality and reliability over the other?

Thx
