Hobbywing MAX8, does it need the cap pack (4x4 3S Chassis ; TP4030)?

Soldering cappack to the MAX8?

Why does that motor look so small? It looks more like a 3650 than a 4068.

It does look small, maybe cause it has no fans on it.not impressed after 1 short run.ill try it again when wheather is nicer.heres surpass 4068 & 4067 tp

@slick2500 According to TP, it isn't even a 4068. TP says it is a 40x63 can, so it is a good amount shorter than a normal 1/8 scale can.
This is why I personally wouldn't use it in an 1/8 scale (for that, I would go TP4040 [=> 40x74] or up), but I think it is a great motor to give a 1/10 scale some good power without gowing overboard.

The 4050 seams to really pack some punch.
How is it on 6S? I mean is obviously has more power than the stock motor, but does it stack up to bigger cans? Would you say it is more comparable to a Rocket 4082 or 4092?

Yeah, it is still running, and I love it!

I'm currently running the car with a 21 tooth pinion on Louise ST Mcross tires.
It moves on 3S! On gravel, The Accleration & Top Speed were comparable to my Kraton V4 with a 13t pinion on 6S. It wheelies from the start, and it can wheelie up to middle speeds (with the ST Mcross tires, I pulled Wheelies on Gravel at 40+ km/h).
But it gets pretty hot in the summer, although it haven't overheated it yet (I have a 40mm fan + fan shroud on the motor). Also, it eats through batteries (a 6000mah 3S pack is gone in 10 minutes or less).

I also did a few speedruns on Proline 2.8 Prime tires (which are MT tires, I normaly drive this thing on ST tires) and it reached 109,84 km/h (~ 68,25 mp/h). But I wouldnt recommend running this gearing on MT tires, then it will probably overheat while bashing.
How do you compare hw-tp-3s setup compared with stock blx??do your packs get hot on hard running??
If you plan on running the motor setup on ST or SC tires & using 3S, the motor is great for that (Definitely don't get a higher kv than 3267! The 2750kv might also work, but then you need to run the 25 tooth pinion for the same results as I have with the 21, so no options to keep gearing up).
If you plan on running MT or 1/8 Buggy tires & using 3S, then going with a little lower kv might be a good idea.
If you plan on running 4S, you need to get a lower kv (I asked Hobbywing, the MAX8 is only 4S rated up to 3000kv).
But if you plan on running 4S or MT tires, a Hobbywing 4068 2600kv might also do the trick,

Oh ya.ive got a rocket 4092 & leopard 4082
The 4050 is 40×82 an its got more power than them both them on 6s.the thing is it runs way cooler than any other motor ive had.in 45ish degree wheather I had mojave with 5.4inch tires with 20/50 gearing an hard running max6 & tp an neither got over 110.my packs got the hottest outa everything.could gear up,but I'm already blowing sidewalls out 2.8 belted duratrax.not many tires can handle the rpms.this 130$ same size tp4050-2100kv absolutely blows the 90$ leopard 4082 2000kv away in power, temp,an will take 8s fine.
