Hobbywing Max8 ESC fan stopped

Max 8 is 6A cont. Cautious with the maximum as there is no official time listed for how long it can hold it. A stalled servo will be stalled for longer then the fraction of a second the BEC can hold the absolute max. You want to spec your BEC for worst case.

Not sure how this works? The ESCs I have seen from Hobbywing all have the same specs and compared to Spektrum it is already double the capacity. Can take off the fans and put them on a separate battery

I also have the max8 combo and just had the esc apart. On the original fan it states 5v DV but the esc is delivering 6v or 7,4v.
Im wondering how that fits together and what happens to the fan if running on higher esc voltage...

Interesting, usually these fans have a voltage range. Let's see

I don't think there is any info to be found on the stock fan but 6V is fine, 7.4V probably as well but that is as high as I would take it.. Typically a 5V fan is ranged in the 4-6V range i.e. never understood why they picked them. Mine died a gruesome death prior it burning out.
By all means, do the fan mod or the fan will be dead after a couple jumps. The blade will catch and kill it in no time.
Replace with an aluminum framed fan if it dies and that won't be an issue ever again.
Stock is a 35mm fan (Max6), currently you can only get 30mm fans but the 35mm alu is starting to pop up in China.
Was just told that the Max8 has a 30mm and below should work like a charm.

Fan 30mm type, these are all the same under many names and are rated 5.0V to 8.4V

they will not bolt directly but you can make it work.

Fan 35mm, suggest to get a couple on order from china and switch even if the old one is still working. Pick a vendor to your liking, there are several out there.

Interesting as the manual says the max8 has a 30mm fan not 35mm
