In order, compressed air, foaming engine degreaser, wait, water, air, then hit all the bearings with super lubricant. No scrubbing no stains. Whole thing takes 5 mins tops. Comes out perfect. Just watch the radio box it isn't waterproof as it says. I sealed the foam section up with a qtip and silicone along with the seams of the diffs.

I use a Traxxas rx box, a dab of silicone grease on the thing where the cables come through and those things can get fully submerged in water.

Re: wd40. Growing up I saw my buddy’s dad spray all of his shiny tools in his tool chest with wd40 to keep them from rusting and lubed. I went home and tried it in my hobby tool chest. Few weeks later every single tool was completely rusty and it smelled kinda bad. I quit using wd40 altogether back then never understanding why that happened. That’s over 35 yrs ago lol

WD40 disperses fast. I wouldn't rely on it for long term rust protection. Though It is good for short term protection. There are better products on the market. On my full scale 4wds and some tools I use lanolin as it lasts a lot longer. It is a bit more messy though.

WD40 is not lube, it's meant to displace water. I usually use some kind of dry lube on my tools. Less of a mess to clean up after they've been sitting for a while.

I have seen a couple threads and even get emails asking this question, how do you clean your RC? So I thought I'd share how I clean all of my RC's, plus others can share their methods as well.

How to clean your RC

How I have always cleaned my RC's have been to use a 50/50 mixture of water and Simple Green in a spray bottle.

Spray the RC down and let sit for a minute or two then either wipe down with clean cloth or air blast dry with an air compressor. Spray again on any stubborn spots and use an old toothbrush on any hard to reach areas.

Optionally, you can use WD40 on the RC after it's been cleaned to give it more of a shine if you prefer.

How to clean your RC bearings

When cleaning bearings I will remove the bearings from the RC and place inside an RPM Bearing Blaster then spray brake cleaner into the bearings to clean them followed by a light application of very light oil, such as this 3 in 1 oil.

If you really want to get serious about cleaning, pick up a Ultrasonic cleaner like this one which you'll be able to easily fit all of your bearings as well as many other RC parts. The ultrasonic cleaner will do magic in getting pretty much anything clean. But remember, if cleaning bearings with the ultrasonic cleaner to oil them afterwords.

That's it, now you should have an RC that's clean and ready to go get dirty again. What methods do you guys use?
Hi WoodieE

I'm new to this generation of RC cars. I recently purchased a Kraton 6s BLX and Kraton 8s. I have a couple of questions about cleaning them.

1) If I spray the inside, (where all of the electronica are), with "simple green", or just water, won't that damage the ECT, motor, receiver, etc..., even if I blow off all remaining residue that I can with an air compressor?

2) Starting with a clean, dry car, what are your thoughts on spraying "WD-40 Specialist Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant" on everything. Inside and out, and letting it completely dry. Is this product basically the same as regular WD-40, and not suitable for lubrication?

Thank you for your time.

Its different than Regular WD40. It is a lube made from silicone. But I am not a fan of most WD40 Brand stuff.
The "40" in WD-40 means the 40th revised formula. It has changed many times and been around long. Its marketted as a do it all lube that does a very poor job at best. It works like water, which is also a lubricant. And what happens with water eventually?(n)

I wouldn't use an "either" or "or". Instead, use a 50%/50% mixture of both simple green and water in a spray bottle. Following the steps I laid out above you'll be fine.

You're spraying the RC's then cleaning. Not submerging them. I've been using this cleaning method for many years now, long before we even had "waterproof" electronics and have never had an issue.

Thank's. I'm just playing it safe.

(For tires)Was going to buy simple green bottle but i think i wont because i read that simple grean takes out the oil of the pores of the rubber making the tire a lot more grippy but makes your tires softer and can make your tires baloon more or wear faster im going to stay with water and brush. Might get simple green to clean my rc parts but if it removes everything idk if plastic has its oils also

So, I’m gonna add this because it contradicts some of my older posts where I said I sprayed everything down with Moo-Slick Silicone spray after cleaning. Which I did in fact do that but what I would like to say now is DO NOT DO THAT. I was an idiot and should have known better, I did know better but wasn’t thinking. Silicone dries out rubber, so only use it in metal to metal areas that need rust protection or lube. The plastics are fine but putting it on rubber is not recommended. If you want to condition or shine it back up use a water based automotive interior dressing like Aerospace 303 or something.

Hit the tires up with Armor all tire spray. And if you want to save some money buy Mean Grean instead of Simple Green you can get the big jug for like $5-$6.
