Vorteks How would you upgrade a Vorteks Boost to 3S? And what extra costs to consider(like wheelie bars, esc + motor + slipper clutch etc)

I need to get my son a 3S Vorteks or Granite. I got a Vorteks 3S BLX but Im not happy with the Spektrum family. So I am thinking to just take this opportunity and build myself a new car and my son would get my electrics in his car.

So if you were to do this, what esc + motor you d do it with? How about receiver/transmitter? ( i am new and I like AVC, it helps me on tarmac, but Id be open to upgrade to a better transmitter/receiver combo w AVC like tech), i know the wheelie bar is extra cost. I know the Boost has different clutch (if any), I now remember I also would need the 4x4 upgrade.

Am I forgetting anything? I also found my Vorteks super wobbly all around 4 tyres. Is there easy fix for that or I can shim it? Or I can buy better arms/driveshafts/hubs etc?

I appreciate your help!

I would go Granite BLX, we have had so much fun with them. AVC is nice in a straight line which I rarely do with the Granite.. Don't really need it.. SLT3 is a great budget radio system. If you run them on 2S you should have no issues, I do break stuff on 3S.

If you don't want to spend the extra $ look into the Typhon 3S.. It was so hard not to pull the trigger on this.. Sale still seems good at King Cobra. $240 shipped.

I live in the UK and so we don't have offers even close to that, but I'd either get the Granite or the Vorteks.
If I get the Granite for my son, I'd still swap over electrics from my Vorteks, so my question in original post would still apply :D

You need the whole power module: slipper, motor mount, pinion, spur...

alloy hexes, adjustable turnbuckles optional

I think diffs and input gear are same, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The boost is 2wd, so be aware of that, probably want 4wd if you go brushless.

Little confused though, you have a Vorteks 3S BLX, if you pickup a Granite 3S BLX it will have the same electronics but a different radio and receiver (the SLT3 and SR315 Receiver in the Granite).

I think the plan is to buy his son a lower end Granite, like a Boost or MEGA and put his Vorteks electronics in it to make it 3S.

Yes, I would buy a lower end Granite or Vorteks for my son, put my electrics in and mostly I'd have smth like a roller Vorteks for myself, which then I'd turn into smth I like.

I've seen people slowly turning their Vorteks Boosts into 3s brushless, so know I can do it and don't have to necessarily go all in at once.

Ahh, since you have not picked one up yet, I would highly suggest just getting another BLX. Speaking from experience on upgrading a Mega you will be upgrading a lot..

Here is a list to give you an idea:
1. Slipper: https://jennysrc.com/collections/ar...ar-slipper-clutch-assembly-hd-57t-ara4302v3-1
2. Power Module Housing: https://jennysrc.com/collections/ar...m-red-mount-motor-fan-senton-typhon-ara4302v3
3. Adjustable Links (if you want them over the fixed links): https://jennysrc.com/collections/ar...blx-tie-rods-turnbuckles-front-rear-ara4302v3
4. Wheelie Bar: https://jennysrc.com/collections/ar...-wheelie-bar-mega-big-rock-crew-cab-ara4302v3
5. Upgrade to Brushless System (stock brushed is.......), will need a new pinion as well.
6. Body (optional). The BLX Bodies are a little different in styling and design.

To add 4WD:
1. Axles: https://jennysrc.com/collections/ar...fts-front-rear-axle-senton-big-rock-ara4302v3
2. Front Diff (easier to buy complete vs parts): https://www.ebay.com/itm/325405364863
3. Center Drive Shaft: https://jennysrc.com/collections/ar...r-slider-driveshafts-swb-set-senton-ara4302v3

Also for Motor and ESC combo's for the 1/0th scale check out the Hobbywing Max10 combos, they work well in these size trucks.

I have also heard rumors that the Boost line might be shipping with grease in the rear diff vs. diff oil. I would pull it apart and make sure you have diff oil in there with the addition of brushless power.

Welp, I was gonna respond with something similar to what RCbuzz posted, but ... he got to it first. 😂

Keep in mind that the pinion and spur for the "Boost" is a different pitch than the BXL. If I remember right, the Boost uses 48p and the BXL uses 32p.

Hate to say it but yes, it seems it makes sense to go with another BLX. I might be lucky and even sell the Spektrum esc+motor combo for more than the Hobbywing counterpart. (if anyone is crazy enough to buy it

I bet that would be an easy sell for you. Lots of people like the 3s combo (including me). 😃

My main particular problem is that I bought a high voltage servo and half of the forum says the 100A ESC doesn't do more than 6.0v BEC:( so I got a servo that could do 0.07 30kg and instead I'd be sitting with 20kg on .10s. which is not bad, but since I paid ~£90 for it, I kinda will be running the Porsche in 2nd gear.

Seen a few good deals on used Typhon 3s on eBay used for $180.00 last week and I allways see people selling them .if I were you I'd buy a used one and use the xtra money on upgrades on the typical things that break the most.but the Typhon is a great basher over all.on road or off road.👍

The thing with eBay is you need to stay on top of it .if you don't check everyday you might miss a great deal.i bought a out cast a year ago for 125 from someone that needed to get rid of it quick .I sent him a offer and he accepted.3 weeks later I sold it for 300.it was barely used .I got it for a deal and the person who bought from me also got a deal so the key is to be patient..when your anxious and want something bad and you just can't wait sometimes you miss deals.couldnt tell ya how many times I bought things cause I couldn't wait and a week later I miss a deal of a life time lol ..good luck bud..happy bashing 🤟👍😁
I noticed you don't have a build thread started..when you start your journey let's us see your progress.alot of knowledge on here that can assist you in many ways.🤟😁

It's a steering servo, 20kg/0.10s is way more than enough on a small 1/10 lightweight vehicle. That's like worrying that your Porsche has only 900hp and not 950hp.

Nah, its more like 600hp instead of 900hp or 3s to 100kmh instead of 4.5s to 100kmh 😁

But anyway, I just hope I can safely install and enjoy it

Sorry to hijack this thread but if I read above the power module housing has to be changed as well for the Boost to brushless conversion?

I was under the assumption that the Boost version could be used as well or dit I misinterpreted that?

Its an interesting question. I don't mind not having the slipper clutch, but the slipper clutch is there to eat up tons of instant power that comes out of the motor when you do full throttle. So if not the slipper clutch, probably things would be breaking inside the car 😬

This is an interesting question, as someone totally new to RC but using the Vorteks Boost as a starter car for my son. The plan is to use it as a platform for upgrades and projects so he (and I as well!) can learn as we go.

In the replacement parts list for the Vorteks Boost, it lists an assembled slipper clutch, presumably implying that it comes with one?

https://www.arrma-rc.com/en/product/91t-slipper-set-48dp/ARA311111.html

Is there something different about this slipper clutch that would not be proper to use if converting to brushless?

Yes they are two totally different slipper clutches:
You see the 3S slipper has more pads, if you use metal spur then even one extra(total of 4).

Im sure you know at this point, but to upgrade a Boost to similar 3S will probably take you into the $550 in total costs. Parts are just too expensive, it worths more to straight buy the 3S blx.

If you, however don't mind the money and want the experience, its gonna be an amazing journey building a 3s out of a boost
