2/6/22 Update: Since I started this post about my vorteks awhile back it’s become my regular post for the car. So here are the details on my Arrma Vorteks Hybrid.

It started out as a Vorteks, my Father’s Day present, and I didn’t like it after a few runs. After shelving it for awhile I decided to ‘fix’ what I didn’t like about the car.

Turned off the avc.
Granite front shock tower so I could run mojave shocks
Typhon arms and turn buckles
Hot racing motor mount
6s mojave front shocks all the way around with team associated yellow springs. 50wt back, 60wt front.
Hot Racing diff covers front and rear- 25wt front diff, 15wt rear diff
Spectrum 130amp smart esc
Surpass 3670 (with o-ring around end of the can and washer/o-ring beneath pinion), 2650kv and 16t pinion.
Reinforced spur hub with a bearing race.
New Powerhobby belted Raptor wheels/tires

That’s it so far!

Well, since I’ve been up all night anyway watching out for my sick step daughter, I decided it’s time to take this Fuze six pole 3660 2850 kV motor and 18t pinion that I’ve had lying around for a couple of months and shove it in a car. And what better car to shove it into then the inbred hybred vorteks.

I got this motor because I wanted something that could also go also slow a little bit better than the standard four poll motor. My Vorteks is my all around car. With all the changes I’ve made to it it’s become my favorite next to the high flying granite.

I can’t wait to try it out 🙃
huh… I went to add pictures and just realized I forgot to take pictures. Shucks, it’s such a pretty motor.

I haven’t put the new esc in yet. Kush’s old Firma is still going strong! Got a 130amp spectrum for it I’ll throw in soon.
I love this car. Just need a new body for it now. Fire red something or other.

Well, it’s no good. Acting like it can’t handle the 18t pinion. I don’t know but…maybe it’s the old esc? Ill switch and find out. Yup time for the 130amp esc.

Yup, putting in a 130amp esc fully unleashed the power of the 2800kv motor. I’m only had a chance to drive it briefly but wow! Very nice 🙃

The 3660, 2850kv 86 pole motor was very nice but it also heated up quick on a fairly cool day so…new motor. Again.

Yeah it’s near perfect now. Threw in a Surpass 3670, 2850kv with 18t pinion and spectrum 130amp esc. I’ve got the stock drive train (I do have hot racing diff yokes though) dialed in well enough that I’m not popping drive shafts or stripping gears. Love the o-ring thing around the motor can. Haven’t bent a mount on any of my cars since I started using them. It is very smooth and runs relatively cool now so I’m pretty happy.

Next I need to pick out and paint a body for it. I wonder what would be a good alternative to the stock body for the vorteks…

The swb vortex shares platform with granite and outcast 4s..either of those bodys would fit...swb is 287mm

Yup. I am looking at Proline and Jconcepts to see if I can work one of those. Otherwise I’ll stick with the stock vorteks body.

Ok…as she sits today
Surpass 3670, 2650kv motor
18t pinion
Spectrum 130amp esc
Granite front shock tower
Mojave front 6s shocks all the way around
Stock Granite wheels

I love this car! It is my favorite rip around critter and good for technical terrain with moderate jumps. The only thing missing now is a set of MX28s and a new body to paint. In the coming months though. The pics below are with MX28s and m2c 17mm adapters, but I put them on the typhon build.

I decided to go down a couple notches from the 18t pinion, so I installed a Robinson racing 16t earlier today. Will see how that flies tomorrow. With the 18t pinion it seems just a bit…’off’. Maybe it will feel more ‘on’ with a 16t.

It’s the new thicker Arrma mount. Seems pretty solid.
