i blew up my stock motor with the fury mega... not literally though.
it got EXTREMELY hot and melted the motor guard and when i removed it, it appeared rusty even though ive never driven it in wet conditions. So ive decided to convert to brushless with some GoolRC components and save my old ESC for a Tamiya kit ill be getting. Does anyone have an ideas about the rust and how it got there? And who knows how to remove the pinion gear?

Not sure about the rust, but the pinion is held onto the motor shaft by a set/grub screw.
Use the supplied hex keys to undo it. Or do what I did, and strip the set screw hex fitting and have to use side cutters to lever the gear off!

Also, if the grub screw won't back out, heat it up! Factory locktite can make it tough, but heat it up (soldering iron or a lighter) and the glue will melt.

For power, don't go silly power, as a 2wd SCT can only put so much power to the ground. Get a 3650 sized motor between 3000kv-3500kv.
